It is traditionally called so. You may call it by any name but people enjoy it as a social pagan festival which comes according to the change in the seasons.

I personally don't think that a Christian should celebrate Christmas because it was originally a celebration to the Sun God. There are passages in the Bible that shows how God would want the items associated with the Sun God to be destroyed when the Jews would take over a city. The fact that they took a celebration to the Sun God and pasted Christian names on it, is offensive. I think God would be offended too.
The only thing when can know about when Christ was born is that it was NOT Dec. 25th. The shepherds were out tending their flocks by night. This was not done in December as that was the rainy season. Why would God go to all the trouble to make sure we knew when Jesus birthday was NOT? If he wanted us to celebrate it, wouldn't God have made it clear when it was?
God also does not like lies. Many people actually claim this is Jesus birthday! The wise men are pictured at the manger and we KNOW that this didn't happen by reading the Bible. The wise men showed up much later when Jesus was at a house. The only ones invited to the manger were the Shepards.
So many lies surrounding Jesus birthday. I don't think God would really be happy about that. I know I am going to get some thumbs down on this because people are passionate about their celebrations. ( why do you think the Roman Catholic Church took the celebration to the sun god and pasted Christian titles on it? - to placate those who were unwilling to give up their traditions and bring them into the church)
So, Can we really celebrate Christmas? Sure... We CAN, but should we? This is something each person has to have peace with in their own minds. God will lead if we are willing to follow.

Christmas is a Christian and Pagan combination of Yule and Christ's Mass. It can thus be celebrated by almost anybody, especially when you throw a fat man in a red suit into the mix.
As for Easter, it is also a Christian and Pagan holiday. Easter commemorates Christ's resurrection, sure, but it also has Pagan elements as well. The Easter bunny and Easter eggs are Pagan fertility symbols. Thus, Easter is also an "everybody" holiday.
If you're a Christian, celebrate those days as you would unto God. It is only Him you need to worry about pleasing.

I think that every one should celebrate Christmas by taking time to be more aware of those around. It is a good time to be specially loving and kind.
In our house we no longer give presents at Christmas as we consider it a waste of money to give something for the sake of giving. If I want something special at any time, I just tell my partner and he gets it as a Christmas present at whatever time I ask.
Banish Christmas if you like but please replace it with a special time to be family and socially orientated. It doesn't matter what you call it.

People were celebrating winter holidays, decorating trees, singing, giving gifts, feasting, gathering with family and friends, etc. for centuries BEFORE Jesus or Christianity were invented. The Bible even FORBIDS the use of "Christmas trees' because it was a HEATHEN tradition. Jesus was NOT the original 'reason for the season' and STILL isn't for millions of people.
Easter was originally a Pagan holiday, too - a sex/fertility festival, honoring the Anglo-Saxon goddess, Eostre. Eggs, hares, and flowers are all symbols of fertility and birth, not Jesus.

Christians are the people who moved it to coincide with the Pagan pageant to attempt and get human beings to transform, and that they equipped churches on pagan sacred floor to attempt and contain them interior the commencing up, the christians might bypass for the period of the front door the Pagans on the north gate, later this became blocked off because of the fact the Christians did no longer like the belief of Pagans gathering on the returned door! in case you seem at older chuches you will locate the place they have been blocked up, the stone used became diverse from the rest. it incredibly is substantial to me!

Christmas was assimulated from the wiccans. They celebrated yule aka the winter festival. The Christian missionaries came and tried to convert them. It didn't work so they assimilated their holidays and everything they could cram in to their religion and claimed it as their own after carving it to pieces and sticking it back together.
