Depends on the clog. Crystal drain cleaners work by dissolving in water to become a very strong and toxic chemical that basically chemically reduces the two main components of a clog -- hair and grease -- until they are dissolved sufficiently to allow the water pressure in the sink to push the clog out.
That said, I had a tub clogged and no amount of drano helped. So I had to resort to seeing what else was blocking it -- turned out to be several bandaids, a bathing suit string, and all the gunk stuck to them. Nothing short of physically removing the clog was going to work.
For the most serious clogs still in the house, a plumber (or if you can pull it off as a DIY (do it yourselfer), if you can get a plumber's snake at the local hardware store. The "snake" can basically be pushed down and through the pipes to the clog, at which point you spin the other end and the spinning motion of the tip will grind into the clog until it gets physically broken up into smaller pieces that will fit down the drain.

I always use baking soda and white vinegar. First put about 1/2 cup or more soda down the drain. You may have to poke it down with something, but if you can get more than 1/2 cup down do so. Then heat up to near boiling about 2 cups of white vinegar. Then pour this very slowly down drain, a little at a time, because it will be bubbling. Let it set until it stops all action , then run the hot water tap to see if this clears clog. If not, you can try process again. This almost always works for me. The amounts I mentioned are just approximates, I really don't measure, so you can just be your own best judge of amounts. I like this method because it works so well, it's cheap, and not harmful to the sink or pipes or environment. Hope it works for you!

Depends on what's clogging the sink. If you know what it is... If it is grease you should run hot water for a while. If it is food or hair try using drain-o. If you have not idea, or something feel down the sink- stop running the water and call a plumber.
