Initially these were copied from India but there was imperfection even in copying. At different stages the Church has tried to correct by introducing changes but still there are anomalies in its practice.

The celebration of christmas began in the 5th century CE. The reason that December 25 was chosen was because it corresponded to the winter solstice which was celebrated by Pagans and the church wanted to replace that holiday with a christian one.
The actual birth would not have taken place in the winter because shepards would not have their sheep in the fields at night during that time of year.
I read somewhere that Jesus was actually born on October 9, and it was actually 7 years earlier than is commonly believed. There was no explanation of how the author determined this.

This has come up at LEAST 10 times a day the past week.
WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE! We celebrate Christ's birth on 12/25. It has also been made a Federal holiday so everyone can take advantage of the day, not just Christians.
Get it? God bless!

The DATE is UNKNOWN...
One of the most reasonable estimates puts the date around "Purim" in early spring. (This was a traditional time for census or taxation to be performed in many parts of the ancient world.) I doubt that many informed or educated Christians "believe" Jesus was born around the traditional "Christmas," since the evidence is so stacked against that possibility... The traditional date was an import of the pagan celebration of Winter Solstice by catholicism around the 4th century.

The Bible only hints at when Christ was born--sometime around the 6th of October. Hence, it is obvious that God does not want us to celebrate his birth at all.
