Yet another reason why the bible was written, to keep women as second class citizens and then have the 'bible' as justification for it.
Yet another reason why I don't believe in the bible, religion, god etc.

The Bible is full of examples of behavior, good and bad. The story of Lot is meant to contrast with the preceding story of Abraham on the subject of hospitality. Abraham rushes out to meet his guests, does everything possible to make them comfortable, prepares a feast and listens to what they have to say. When he argues with God, it is on behalf of other people, not himself.
Compare Lot's approach. When the guests arrive, Lot picks them up simply because no one else has. He provides a very plain supper. His one protective act is incredibly stupid. And when the guests take matters into their own hands, Lot and family demonstrate how poorly they listen. Lot even argues about how far he should be forced to walk to save his life.
Contrast Abraham with Lot and you have an idea of how people should and shouldn't respond to God (or ordinary guests, for that matter). By focusing exclusively on the characters in the stories, one misses the intended messages of the stories. Lot is NOT a good example.
Try reading Judges for another example of persuasive writing. The book starts out stating, "At that time there was no king in Israel and people did what they thought was right." We see several heroic examples at first, but as the book continues, their choices get worse and worse, until by the end they are apalling. Then the book repeats: "At that time there was no king in Israel and people did what they thought was right." The meaning has completely changed. Just because something is shown in the Bible doesn't mean it should be done.

At the time of Sodom’s impending destruction, Lot was visited by two angels, sent to scout the situation. Lot extended hospitality to them. But the men of the city surrounded his home, demanding that the visitors be handed over to them for immoral purposes. Lot sought to protect his guests even to the point of offering his two virgin daughters to the mob. But they weren't interested in women. Angered, those men pressed heavily in on Lot, whereupon his angelic visitors brought him indoors and struck the wicked Sodomites with blindness.--Ge 19:1-11
It seems to me that Lot may not have stopped to think the situation through, & his feelings were running high. If he had thought about it, I'm sure he'd have recognized that his angelic visitors --with God's powerful support behind them-- were quite capable of handling the situation. However, also consider the culture Lot was from... When a host's guest was threatened, the host was responsible for protecting & defending his guest/s, & Lot's angelic guests were representatives of God, himself! This put a whole different spin on things!
I'm not sure how I would have reacted, under the same circumstances... It all seems to have happened very quickly.
Lot was not an immoral man. Scripture says that by living near Sodom, he did not become like the Sodomites. Rather, “by what he saw & heard while dwelling among them from day to day, he was tormenting his righteous soul by reason of their lawless deeds.”--2Pe 2:8.

He did it to protect the one guy. The guy was under his house and Lot felt it was his duty to protect the guy.
I admit, it IS horrible. I don't understand it. And then the GUY gave his new girl to the men, who raped her till she was dead. Terrible. BUT, that's the one story which made me realize that the Jews probably didn't make up the Bible. I mean, who would make themselves out to be monsters if it wasn't true? I'm not saying Jews are monsters, just that every culture has their immorality (like us and the atom bomb). Most cultures then CHANGED their history to reflect well upon themselves.

Lot offered his daughters because the two men that came to his door were angles and the Sodomites were seeking to have sex with the angels, would you promote that knowing that they were sent by God. or would you trust God to protect all of you? This is where faith comes in.

The Bible contains several verses about men selling their daughters as sex slaves. It's the most immoral book ever written. Most people have never read the entire Bible, so they have no idea what it REALLY says.

Lot knew they were a bunch of gays that only wanted to play with other men. You are the sick one, not Lot. I pity your daughters being raised by such a contemptible person as you.
