If you really want to truly experience Scotch, get single-malt scotch whiskies as opposed to blended ones like Chivas. The ones I like the best are Lagavulin and Macallen. They are both from Scotland distilleries, and both have a very smoky taste due to peat being burned in the fire that they use to dry the barley. The longer the Scotch has matured, the better it tastes. So an 18-year old Scotch is generally better than a 12-year old Scotch by the same company. This is not to knock blended Scotch whiskey, which can also be very good, but just to guide you to the truest Scotch experience.

It is one of the 2 leading 12 year old Scotch whisky blends sold in the US today. The other is JW Black.
Slightly peaty and smoky taste, served best over ice or a splash of water. This is a purist's drink, if you mix it with anything else, the whisky police will surely come looking for you.

Very smooth and very tasy good on its own or if you want a decadent cocktail just a smidgen of cola. Have it neat or on the rocks.
