Can you say ENTERTAINMENT? Folks got their panties in a bunch about HARRY POTTER and the DA VINCI CODE. But you don't hear of folks getting up in arms about ANIMALS TALKING in cartoons (e.g. HAPPY FEET, Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner, which is filled with violence, Ducks and Mice running around with no pants on).
Do people BOYCOTT violent movies? No, they LOVE guts and blood! But let a movie come out that is a bit OFF TRACK about Christianity and people go nuts!
Why not have the author arrested, thrown in jail, beaten and beheaded and get it over with!
By the way, I've been a Christian since 1964 and a Bible teacher since 1988. Christians CAN think for themselves, you know and we CAN decide what is true and what isn't.
Some Christians carried on as if the Da Vinci Code was NOTHING BUT Jesus being married. Obviously those people never took time to read the book. In the one I read, nothing was even HINTED at Jesus being married until page 249. It was a good book, as was another I read by Dan Brown - Angels and Demons.
If you don't think you'll like GOLDEN COMPASS, don't go, but don't tell others not to, especially if YOU haven't even seen it and only took the word of others who are thinking for you.
I never read Harry Potter books for the simple reason that fantasy is not my style of reading. I tried watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of something, but fell asleep.
The same people who condemn movies/books are the of the same mind as the non-believers who try to put down the Bible and have never read or studied it. They just parrot others with their mis-information.
But, that's just MY opinion and will probably tick off a lot of folks who read this.

It's not anti-religion.
It can really be described as anti-ignorance and anti-blindly following something.
Either way it looks great and really, kids will only see it because of the talking animals.
This reminds me of Song of the South. I watched as a kid and, later in life, was shocked to find out it was banned, because it potrayed unrealistic views of slavery. Frankly, I didn't see it as a black person-white person thing, I was enchanted by the cartoon animals singing 'Zip a dee do da'; I don't think I even was old enough to make distinctions of people who were different skin colors.
The outcry and the attention to the religious aspects of it shows kids that it is something "important". It's not something that's supposed to be fun and wonderous- it portrays the religion that momma and daddy belong to in a negative light, so, obviously, it's evil. That, I cannot agree with. Even the child actress who plays Lyra says she didn't notice the religious attributes until it was pointed out to her.
Seriously. Stop being fun suckers. Let kids be kids.

Did you watch the Lord of the Ring series, or Harry Potter, or Star Wars? Of course I'm going to watch the Golden Compass. It's fiction Commander, and should be taken that way.

Yes for many reasons
1. I know that little girl that's playing in it and she's such a sweetheart
2. The controversy interests me
3. My friend saw it and said it was great
4. I'm atheist and want to see what the movie is putting out there
5. Many great movies had ideas like that in them
6. I heard the book was good
7. It looks like a good movie

Are you really sure its pro atheism? or are you just allowing yourslef to be influenced by someone elses take on it.
Here's an idea. How bout just go watch it for the good fairytale entertainment that it is and try not to think about pro this or that.
This reminds me of a comment my cousin made about Edward Scissorhands...she didn't like the movie because she thought scissors for fingers was just absurd and unrealistic, even for a movie.
pretty dumb huh?

I'm not going to see it because
a) it has gotten pretty mixed/often bad reviews.
b) Nicole Kidman looks like a vampire.
c) I have strict rules about not seeing movies with anthropomorphic bears.
d) my friend worked on the publicity campaign so I was sick of hearing about it three months ago.
e) all of the above, plus I don't care to waste that kind of money on any of this, anyway.

I will probably buy a ticket but I may or may not actually go in to the theater. I just want to support anything that pisses off the fundies so much.

I will watch it when it comes out on DVD because it looks good. Who cares what religion thinks. It's just a movie.

it is with the aid of fact the author of the e book (the movie is predicated on the 1st of a trilogy) is an atheist. individually, if a individual would be prompted by making use of a movie that unquestionably, and not have adequate faith of their very own ideals...then i think unhappy for them. it somewhat is a movie, human beings. comparable as "The Da Vinci Code". it is merely alot of over zealous communities, attempting to shove their very own ideals down the throats of others who disagree with them.

over all it was a pretty good movie, boy you must really love your religion to not want to see a simple movie over it.
so just because it did not have god in it it is considered pro-atheism
