If the universe wasn't expanding, gravity would have caused it to collapse a long time ago and life would not be possible.
I'm curious as to why you link God with this astronomy question?

The purpose of its expansion is for us to evolve into a being of energy. That's what God wants from us. To love each other. The Universe is expanding because we're falling inward, not the other way around. The sun has been in a binary orbit around a singularity for a long time. The phenomenon of precession proves it if we are willing to look at the alternative to the lunisolar wobble theory for the cause of precession. Precession is accelerating. This could be caused as our sun approaches periapsis around its brother black hole. The gravitational pull of this singularity is causing us to literally fall away from the Universe. I know we've been hearing "the end is near" for the past 2,000 years but perhaps they are correct because they sensed that this would happen. This binary model for our solar system would also explain the cause of the accelerating orbits of distant galaxies. The closer we are to the singularity, the more our time slows down, causing the distant galaxies orbits to move faster in time, and accelerate. We chalk all these mysteries off to "dark energy" when in fact, no one has put together the pieces yet.

What? What do you mean the universe expands? Who are you going to believe, a bunch of evil devil-worshipping scientists, or the Bible?
