So even if religions didn't preach about the wrongs of those things, that still doesn't make it right or wise to engage in these pleasures.
So why are some atheists critical of religions who do criticizes people who do these things? I bet you that a lot of doctors would also tell you not to do a lot of these things. In moderation yes, but even things done in moderation can effect your body. If you are so much for science that you will know that anything that you do to your body (just one time) will effect you in the long run. Hospitals don't ask about your history to know about you social life.
Lots of people put their own selves in the hosptial. There are also social issues to consider as well. Don't think that your open lifestyle isn't going to effect your kids. So what is wrong with a religion preaching against these things, or asking people to do them with moderation and be aware of the consequences?

I'm not sure if the bible mentions drugs. It does mention drinking. In the bible it doesn't criticize drinking, but it does excessive drinking and what can happen if you do drink too much. As for sex, it doesn't demonize sex. It does demonize casual sex, but now days it is not just the church saying this is wrong.

No one still addressed the question. What is wrong with criticising these things?

It isn't just religion TELLING people what to do. So a doctor is in the wrong for telling a patient that they should stop taking drugs or smoking? Is a health care nurse wrong for telling someone to use a condom?

You shouldn't deal with it in a compassionate way. Haven't you heard of co-dependence. If you are doing too much of something, you should be called upon it. People are dead because people didn't want to step on anyone's toes.

Edit:
The abtinence program is for school. School is for education, not sex. If you disaprove of that measure, do you also approve of birth control for 11 year olds.
I was talking about adults going to health clinic.

Christianity teaches from the Scriptures. What is taught is for the wellbeing of people. When someone is premiscuous, they are giving part of their spirit to the one they are having sex with, especially when it comes to the female - and this has a deep effect on many later in life. Love and sex are not the same thing at all. Also, when one has had sex prior to marriage, they miss out on the beauty of the gift God gave to a man and a woman not only of pleasure but of becoming one.
We live in a hurting world where people do ot know how to have fun without drinking or drugging. we live in a hurting world that is growing harder each day.
The 'religion' you speak of is uncertain. No where in the Scriptures does it say to have sex in moderation. Most 'religions' prohibit all of the stuff you mentioned above. It harms the spirit. When you claim to be a Christian it is about the relationship with Christ and not religion. It is a different thing. Religion is man made. I hope you will search for the truth.

Of course there's always too much of one thing. But I see religious people who say ANY sex that doesn't result in fornication is a sin. There's some space between being Paris Hilton and a fearful fundamentalist. Right now the religious way to approach sex ed is only to teach Abstinence, and not educate kids about STDs or protection properly. First of all, kids are going to do it regardless, it's better to have them educated with REAL facts. Also, they did studies on kids who take abstinence pledges, and they're several times more likely to just do anal sex instead
It's not wise to do drugs, but which is better. Trying to preach that sin will end up getting you burned is not the right way. As I said before, countries that have a good education level will result in less people abusing drugs.
"So why are some atheists critical of religions who do criticizes people who do these things?"
Because these people don't do it in a rational or educational way. This is how R&S people post.
"This is a sin, and will lead you to Satan. You won't be laughing then"
BULL scare tactics. People tend to filter morons like that.
And a lot of religious people I see also don't just preach those things, they preach intolerance toward Muslims, gays, Christian denominations their organized church disagree with, etc

The problem is that there are differences between what is morally wrong (that which harms others), and that which is unwise. The religious concept of "sin" blurs the distinctions, and then adds a further bunch of arbitrary prohibitions that bear no relationship to harm to others or actual danger to the individual.
All of us sometimes do things that harm others, or are against our own long term self interests. But much of the time the religious concept of "sin" has nothing to do with dealing with such human failings in a rational and compassionate way: it is simply about maintaining the prestige of the "religious club".
This is immoral, or if you prefer, a "sin".
[Edit:] Being compassionate is not the same as being a pushover.

If there's a god accessible, or interior us, then the question is meaningless. we've loose will to believe what we want. Religions are guy-made communities of human beings who proportion an ordinary perception. they're cultural, that's why they're so diverse. some religions believe THEIRS is the only real faith. yet while god extremely frightened or hated religions, do no longer you think of we'd all be believing or disbelieving the comparable element? "Christianity, on the different hand, grow to be by no skill meant to be a faith." it is real. yet ,oh how the founding fathers found out what a administration gadget it must be and is! all of us is grasping. some greater desirable than others. If all Christian denominations extremely observed Jesus' teachings, there may well be no prosperous church homes. One specially has accrued a fortune in real property, helpful products, priceless antiquities, and nonetheless claims it desires contributions for the damaging. That makes me snicker. So who's glorifying who? Glory to God? I doubt it. Glory of wealth is greater probably. Like I pronounced, all of us is grasping, somewhat people who pretend to no longer be. as properly, i do no longer believe absolutely everyone has risen, walked on water, grew to become water into wine, or any element. Jesus grow to be a magnificent youthful guy, yet a guy, no longer a god. The bible grow to be written by making use of guys, no longer a god. stop being prompted by making use of all the dogma and you would be shocked what you study.

You have heard of Prohibition haven't you. What a dismal failure, and it also gave a big foot hold for organized crime.
The war on drugs has just made a new class of organized crime, and guess what they aren't a bunch of atheists.
While I am all for teaching the actual dangers of excessive drinking or drug use, the effort to legislate any of them has backfired so terribly, all that was accomplished is put a bunch of people in need of help in jail and make them criminals for life.
A great deal of the violence in America is in some way related to drugs, mostly the sale and distribution. That is something our government created by having draconian drug laws.
edit:
Those condoms you talk mention, under the faith based, abstinence only, government mandated sex ed program, they can't even talk about them.

Religions have NO business telling people OF OTHER BELIEFS what THEY should do. If you want your church to control YOU, fine. It isn't applicable to anyone else.
Atheists aren't the ones who worship a sadistic, immoral, killer God who drowned, plagued, and slaughtered millions (more than Hitler), conspired to have his own kid beaten and killed, and who repeatedly COMMANDS his followers to hurt and kill others. WE know that NONE of that is 'love' or moral. People who DO worship the Biblical God have NO business pointing their fingers at others about what is or is not moral.

I must be mistaken. Religious folk claim that all morality comes from the bible, so how would you know if these things are unwise to engage in if the bible doesn't tell you?

Not just Aethists do it, I mean, I think it is natural in human nature to do what they want to.
Besides, you only live once, so why not try things out? I mean, I don't want to die thinking "what if...".
Cliche, but "carpe diem"!
