I was speaking of the military regs as far as certain hairstyles were concerned, nothing more. some people seem to have been confused by that.

Dreadlocks are actually specifically prohibited in Uniform Regulations. so no, you may not keep them.

Short answer, maybe. But read the long answer...

Regulations regarding personal appearance are SUBJECTIVE (it all depends on how the person with the most authority wants to interpret it). For example, I knew of a black woman that was allowed to wear cornrows but a white woman who was not. Upon further investigation, the reasoning that was used was that cornrows are typical of black people whereas they aren't on white people. Typical for who and for where? I've seen lots of white people with cornrows...and they should be able to wear their hair that way if black people can as far as I'm concerned.

Because dreadlocks appear non-conforming, whether they're technically allowed or not probably won't matter unless you want to push the issue up through the IG. SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE will tell you that you're against regulation, even though in all actuality, you're probably not. So you can cut them and fit in with the crowd, or leave them and make waves...it's up to you.

Depends on what branch you are in the Air Force's AFI specifically states no dreadlocks. I am natural and recently had a minor altercation with my facility manager because they didn't find my hair acceptable, people you work with plays a major role too.

No, just during drill weekends. You can grow them out the rest of the month.

You will have to choose between your rights and freedom to wear whatever hairstyle you want; or the opportunity to serve again in the land of the brave and free....
