I've been doing some research on religions for a class I'm taking, and I came across this date on a few websites.
Is there anybody out there who believes this? If you do, how do you think that date was discovered, down to the exact day? Also, what is your take on the sciences, which are constantly discovering evidence that the world is, well, much older than 7000 years old?

I'm not looking to be converted, just wondering about the subject of my question.

Quite possibly he was speaking of the beginning of mans creation. If you go back into bible chronology it gives an approximate date of the time of Adams birth which was a little over 6,000 years ago. This does not imply that planet earth was created at that time. Prior to the given date above there is no way of calculating how many years the earth itself was in the making. Science can only guess and it has given us no evidence to prove how long the earth was being formed and made habitable for lifeforms. The most advanced technology can only go back a few thousand years at most to give an accurate record of the fossil record and any thing beyond that is speculation. Most all scientists would candidly comply with that observation.

Noah's flood changed everything. Killed the dinosaurs(They couldn't fit on the Ark.) The change in the atmosphere changed the rate of carbon decay, making carbon dating an inaccurate science past 4,500 years or so. I also found it interesting to find that the earth's rotation is slowing down minutely over time. If Scientists were correct in saying that the earth is 12 billion years old, the earth would have spun itself into a pancake. There are tons of other stories from the bible that science can prove.

There are quite a few people who seem to really believe that the earth is only 6000 years old.
I knew one. I was AMAZED that he stated that belief. I was a bit spooked when I realized that he was serious.
The exact date? Not a clue.
Does it really matter? I mean, seriously, what if "they" claim it to have been 4:22am (CST), March 25, 4001 BC (or BCE)? Does THAT make it any less strange?
Yes, I *am* a devoted Christian. And a mathematician and scientist.

Many moons ago a Catholic Bishop (I forget his name) added up all the "begats" in the Old Testament and came up with this date.
I neither confirm, nor, deny this date.
Science has, as yet, absolutely confirmed neither the evolution of biologic, nor geologic age of anything.
It takes just as much faith to believe in the evolution of man as it does in the creation of man.
Remember: the "Theory of Evolution" is just a theory.
Jesus Christ was, born, lived and died.
This is a fact as reported by several contemporary individuals.
What is the criteria of anthropologists of confirmation of any event in antiquity? The number of individuals who report the same events.
Conclusion: more evidence exists for the miraculous life of Jesus the Christ than exists for evolution!

You won't get many credible answers in the Religion section. People here would claim Chemistry is a lie if it interfered with some fundamentalist view of the Bible
Repost this in the Science section.

We all know that is true (-; Dinosaurs were not wiped out 150 million years ago, they lived side by side with humans. Ever watch The Flintstones?
Check out this lovely diorama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:CreationMuseum15.png ) in the Creation Museum (http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/ars-takes-a-field-trip-the-creation-museum.ars ) showing Eve sitting in a very sexy frock next to an over sized velociraptor.
I also love the photo of a parent boosting his child onto a saddled tricertops (http://media.arstechnica.com/news.media/400/526893292_e95eb57c10.jpg ).

The Bible says that the truth will set you free. Science can set us free from the principles of misinterpretted scripture. Did you know that a Christian priest George Lemaitre was one of the first proponents of the Big Bang theory. Do you know that another Christian Henri Becqueral was the discoverer of radioactivity, which in turn allows us to date the earth.
Doesn't seem like you know that the majority of scientists, mathematicans, doctors and even science students, both today and throughout history, are believers in God.

I wonder if any such date could be meaningful considering that leap years havn't always existed, nor have watches or even calanders for that matter. There'd be no way to determine a specific date 4000 bc.

I think its every 5000 thousand years a current civilization is wiped clean and a new one starts. This is what I read in the shrimad bhagavatam.
But you've piqued my interest now :) I'm going to go look this up too.
