Hahaha. I like the guy who said that the US can maintain technological superiority over Russia... We can't even keep up with Israel. Classic.

Well, Russia learned it's lesson in the Cold War, and now they've gone completely digital. The newer items in the Russian Armed Forces are actually quite modern, especially the new T-95, that features RAM and Point Defense Systems, which we have yet to adopt. As far as aricraft, the newer Flanker variant aircraft are quite decent, though they have yet to adopt stealth technology, regardless of the fact that they posses it. (Probably more due to cost, than anything else.) They've also adopted newer ICBMs with warheads that change direction on re-entry, making the Patriot ABM absolutely useless. So let's hope it doesn't become a nuclear conflict, eh? Aside from that, the Russian Armed Forces are also well trained, which is often MORE important than the equiptment being used. Russia would be a difficult fight, if we intended to invade. Too much territory, and too many citizens to police. Unless you intend to kill a good percentage of them, but lets not go down THAT road. Hey! Russia has some of the largest oil fields in the world! [Shhh...No one tell Dubbya] But Russia is more or less an ally now, so let's not attack them, okay?

China is not much of a threat....right now. They cannot afford a war with the U.S. At least not yet. Their ground hardware is behind that of Russia, and our F-22's would make quick work of ANYTHING they field in the air. They also have a desertion rate that is shockingly high, even in peace time... I'm not sure they could maintain an invasion of the U.S. We'd probably stop them a hundred miles inland, though many Americans would die. If it was a Nuclear exchange, which it would be if we were invaded, then once again, our Patriot missile system is no good, even against strictly BALLISTIC missiles. It would be interesting to read about if you lived in South Africa, but a living nightmare for anyone in the U.S.

But in the end, I'm not sure this question is practical, as the U.S. really doesn't go to war alone very often... We usually have a coalition of nations to back us. Also, Russia and China are more likely to go to war with eachother in the next 75 years, as Russian crops begin to fail due to climate disruption, and the Chineese demand for oil begins to grow serious. Mass migration can cause MANY horrible things to happen, as can the demand for a subtance (oil) that nobody has in great supply. What will China do when the Northern Hemisphere begins to grow cold, forcing millions to move South? China already has a growing population problem...

We are not likely to fight Russia or China. It simply isn't practictical. But if we HAD to fight, and it can't become nuclear at any point, then I would put my money on the US. Advanced military, with well-trained personal, and a good budget. We could fight without invading the entire county, I suppose.

Neither Russia nor China is a direct threat to us, because they both understand the concept of "mutually assured destruction." So does North Korea, for that matter.

It's the Islamo-Fascists who are dangerous, because some are even willing to strap bombs onto their own children, in order to kill innocents.

But if a war were to break out between the U.S. and Russia or China, somebody would probably drop the first nuke, and it would all be over for all of us quicker than Al Gore could say "An Inconvenient Scam!"

the most dangerous country in the world is the USA. It has generated a lot of unfairness and hatreds among nations. Its super weapons and unbeatable military forces cannot make it a safer and better country. America, as a selfish, gun-armed and jealous country from others' eyes, especially some small nations, is hopeless. it could definitely do things better, but it failed, disappointed most countries in the world. It blame terrorism, but why are there so many terrorism around the world? what has it done in treating the people and matters around it? it is in danger all the time, so it arm itself double, triple, and ten times than others. that is a stupid cycle, hopeless. All its people know they spend too much on military, but still not enough to defence themselves because they have too many enemies, desperate crazy mad enemies. why do those enemies hate them so much, so much that they do not mind to kill themselves to bring the US a single death? why? they leave the answers to their politician, unfortunately, the politician even don't care to ask the question themselves. talking can solve problems, not fighting. fighting can only add hatred, is that right? the only option for the America is to keep the USA better armed until they are totally exhausted, and then they still face those enemies.

In a 1 on 1 fight I believe the U.S. military technology would be enough to maintain the advantage over both these countries as long as nuclear missiles aren't used. If nukes are used, both countries will lose thanks to that whole Assured Mutual Destruction thingy. However There will never be a one on one fight with these countries. It will always be Russia and North Korea and Iran and possibly china v U.S. and the other western U.N. countries.

Russia, well, they pose a threat, but not an imminent one, let's just say you want to keep your eye on them, they're still in the closet about being evil, for the time being.

China, less so, but only because of their own geopolitical limitations, as time goes on however, China will grow to become an increasing threat. I'd keep an eye on them too.

If we go to war with either, it would be the most catastrophic war in human history, even without the use of any nuclear weapons, the sheer size of each country makes a conflict between them incomparable to any past war. So, in the case of war, extremely dangerous, though that presumably won't happen in the near future.

Well, Russia I think is a win for us. The real problem with Russia is that alof of thier munitions went missing or is unaccounted for,. Some have turned up on international black markets...and no one likes the idea of a terrorist organization with a nuke.
As for China...Thanks to Bill Clinton, they now have the last piece of technology to actually make an ICBM...He gave them the missing piece to guidance as I recall. So if China ever considered us a real threat, and started developing accurate missles, we'd be kind of screwed. They still outnumber us in conventional arms and military members. Our greatest defense is in controlling the oceans around us. That geographical barrier has probably saved us much trouble in the past with every war that has ever come up.

As long U.S. remain to be World Police Position, China and Russia won't step back. U.S. need to understand this is not the 90's when U.S. was total dominate force. China and Russia has economic boom while U.S. might face recession, So therefore China and Russia no longer wanted U.S. to be a world police, since now they got muscle to challenge U.S. Here is some fact, Russia has stop been ally with U.S. in UN vote, same with China. Therefore never a pass sanction against Iran. Whenever Bush now called Putin, he simply ingrone him, just think he's a cowboy. Before when Putin first came to power, he was been friend to bush and consider good ally, but back then Russia still face a struggle economy. Oh I said money talks. And china is putting backfire to U.S. after U.S. continues embarrass china (toy recalled, support Taiwan) China now put on hold U.S. Films and not allowed U.S. ship to visit to Hong Kong. U.S. need to realize,we no longer a dominate force as used to. We must adopt to, or we can lead to bigger conflict. Hopefully this will NOT lead to WWIII. But again as alot of dicision is depend on few (politics). Is funny for those know little about russia and china military muscle, russia has twice more nuclear arsenal than United States. And Russia (soviet era has the best airforce) they soon gonna be catch up with U.S. with all those oil money. And China is wellknow for cyber hacking and attacks. And did successful hacking into Defense Secretary Computer and other high ranking official network.

I'm not worried about Russia at all. They're in space with us, they monitor our telecommunications traffic so that they know what we're going to do before we do it, and quite frankly they have no reason to attack us as long as we stay out of their business...although they could attack us much sooner than most of us think they could because they can use Cuba as a launching ground.

China on the other hand could have an advantage on the ground due to the sheer number of personnel at their disposal...but they have to get onto US soil somehow...or are we going over there to fight? Not the smartest move...however they are virtually defenseless against US forces air and space superiority...so we could defeat their ground forces in just a few weeks with relative ease.

China isn't drifting towards democracy, it's drifting towards more capitalism.

Russia unfortunately is drifting away from democracy towards authoritarianism.

And no, I don't see a war ever breaking out between the US and either of the two.

We have the best military in the world in terms of technology and training of our troops. China and Russia both have more troops than we do, but our arms and bombs and missiles are all much more advanced than theirs. So, right now, not much of a threat. But I do see China becoming a threat within the next twenty years.
