Is fivehundred yards really enough for a restraining order? My exhusband is restrained from comming within 500 yards of my childrens school or where I go to scjool. or worship or the place where I live. I believe he is stalking me.. But my mother thinks that there is nothing wrong with him doing this if he's not hurting me..?

Not sure what you mother is thinking. If he's stalking you, call the cops. They can take him in immediately if he breaches a court order. And it's his responsibility to avoid you and not the other way around. 500 yards is a large amount. It's about a 1/4 of a mile or so. To start thinking about 1/2 a mile or a mile or miles would make it difficult for him to live in the same city and there are constitutional rights to take into consideration.

But it's not just 500 yards, is it? He can't call you or get a message to you. If he tries one of those things, call the cops.

Also note that he may try to push the limits of the order. If you don't do anything or nothing happens, he'll push it further. I suspect that he's the type of guy who thinks "Oh, hell, you can't do that to me!!! I'll show you!!!" He probably thinks the rules don't apply to him. That's dangerous. You need to consider your safety and the safety of your children. You need to cut him off and maybe move far away. Is that fair?? No. But guys like that are dangerous and won't stop unless someone stops them or they kill you.

Well, 500 yards, think of it as 5 football fields, that's a pretty good distance. Also I know its personal, but it would help to know what the restraining order was for, because if it was for physical harassment or such, I would demand a bigger restraining order. If it was just arguments and relationships problems i suspect 500 yards would be fine...can't yell loud enough without a speakerphone for anyone to hear you in that distance

oh girl i feel for you. A restraining order is nothing but a piece of paper. If he wants to come within 500 yards of you he will. Be careful. If you feel that he is stalking you go to the nearest police dept. and tell them. I feel that he is dangerous if he cant leave you alone.

Bottom line, if he is going to break the restraining order, it doesn't matter if it says 500 yards or 500 miles.

Well that's over a quarter mile; so I can't imagine how much further you want him to be away from you. The real key is enforcement of the restraining order.

500 YARDS?
1500'
1/4 MILE IS = TO 1320'?

STALKING IS ANOTHER CRIME OTHER THEN THE RESTRAINING ORDER. ALTHOUGH HE MAY KEEP DISTANCE FROM YOU AS REQUIRED BY THE ORDER, HE CANNOT TRACE YOU FROM ROUTE TO ROUTE AND STALKING IS A DIFFERENT OFFENSE THEN RESTRAINING.

500 yards is good enough as any more would be unfair because maybe he has good reasons to be places.
