He may be a Christian, just one who was caught in sin. It happens, and if he repents, should be restored to the congregation, but not as a deacon. (Cf. I Timothy 3:8-10 & 5:20)

Christians are human and use poor judgment just like everyone else in the world. We do expect deacons to practice more self-control but they are human too. The deacon that is having the affair should step down from that post.

If the man is really having an affair, speak to the pastor or the elders about it.

If the church honors the Bible, they will remove the man from his office.

Here are the criteria for being in leadership:

1st Timothy 3

1Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer,(pastor, congregational leader) he desires a noble task. 2Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) 6He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.

8Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. 9They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. 10They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

If the church you go to does not require leaders to live according to these standards, then you should leave.

Not everything in a garage is a car. Not everything calling itself "Christian" is really obedient to and in a living relationship with Messiah.

We all fall short of the Kingdom. If the Deacon repents and turns away from His sin then he probably is a Christian. Judge not lest you be tempted to fall the same way. Should he still be a deacon probably not but he will always be a Christian since once saved always saved.

Because he is telling you to do as i say not as i do. How can so many religious leaders in churches molest the children of their parishoners. How could the catholic Pope of centuries ago around Columbus's time declare a Papal Bull allowing all explorers to commit genocide to all indigenous races encountered during explorations because they were not christian therefore subhuman. Look it up ,It's on the web. The churches are as corrupt as the government. How could the missionaries that ran the native residential indian schools commit child abuse, kidnapping, child molestation and murder of their charges right into the 1970's. The Churches have lost their real purpose , they are all man made and subject to corruption. If you have any doubts check this out.
If you want a real eye opener watch the google documentary called Unrepentent by the former Rev. Kevin Annett a whistle blower to his own church. The Christians have much to hide and anything that is not of their belief is evil.

That doesn't make him a non-Christian because he is doing something that's wrong. He needs to repent and turn around. The pastor along with members who know what he is doing wrong should have him repent, stop doing the wrong and or have him step down from that ministry. He is not fit to be in a leadership position.

having an affair is a SIN BIG TIME, but it doesn't take a person who is truly (if he is) a Christian and change that. A sin is something we all do isn't it? Remember, being a Christian is all about sin, forgiven because of Jesus.

Read chapter 18 of Matthew for proper understanding of how to deal with a brother/sister in sin.

the bible condenms those that do these practices, even in the old testament God destroyed the sons of Ely the priest because they were sleeping with women of the synegogue, God doesn't take it lightly when ministers use His house for their own devious actions, and they will pay for that. as far as to whether they are christians or not, I would have to say no, simply because the name CHRISTIAN, means CHRISTLIKE", Jesus never indulged himself in anything that was unholy or profane, and neither should we, that person should be removed from his/her position, and never allowed to stand behind the pulpit ever again. the temptation will always be there for him to fall.
