If you think so...how do you explain this????

http://www.aclufightsforchristians.com/

"The ACLU fights just as hard for INDIVIDUAL free exercise of religion as the ACLU fights against GOVERNMENT endorsement, sponsorship, or establishment of religion. Despite this fact, many people spread misinformation about the ACLU around the internet, innocently and maliciously, falsely claiming the ACLU is anti-religion or anti-Christian.

This list of FACTS counteracts that misinformation. These links represent just a few of the many examples of the ACLU defending the free speech and free exercise rights of Christians (for purposes of this list, the word “Christian” means a person who self-identifies as “Christian”).

In every example, the ACLU is defending the right of a Christian to speak as a Christian or to practice Christianity.

Here is the current version of this EVER GROWING list: ...

They speak against them now, but if they need them you can bet they'll be wining and knocking at their door.

How about a Christian publication that says that the ACLU isn't evil? At least some Christians understand.

The ACLU (as their name implies) fights for civil liberties. The will fight anyone who appears to be iminging upon someone else's civil liberties.

If an atheist is upset that the a copy of the 10 commandments is hanging in a public building, they will fight for that. If a Christian is being restrained from exercising his right to freedom of religious expression, they will fight for that.

There have been a lot of cases the ACLU was invovled in that fought against churches. It's easy to draw from this that the ACLU is anti-Christian. That's simply not true.

However, the ACLU tends to persue civil liberties at the expense of all else. Sometimes you have to shake your head when you hear who they are defending. If you are a serial rapist and in some tiny insigificant way, one of your civil liberties is at risk of being usurpt, the ACLU will whole heartedly jump behind your case, and put the general public at risk by putting you back on the streets. Perhaps I am exaggerating slightly here, but not by much. When you focus on a single issue like the ACLU does, it's easy to loose perspective and do things that run counter to common sense.

You know the kinds of cases where the judge has to agree with you (i.e. you are right, on paper), but ends up assigning a fine of $1. One of those, "you're in the right here, but this is kind of stupid" verdicts. I think the ACLU gets that kind of ruling more than most lawyers do. "Yea, yea, yea, somebody's civil liberties weren't afforded them, but you lost sight of the bigger picture here..." I think that's the way a lot of Christians view many of the ACLU's anti-Christian cases.

That's my opinion anyway.

The ACLU wants to make sure that our government truly honors the Bill of Rights; however, for some reason SOME Christians think and assume that this is a Christian nation and that all the laws should reflect that rather than have secular laws.

Frankly Frank -- And Christians are FOR freedom??? Yeah... Uh-huh... Sure they are. That's why they burned all of those supposed "witches" at the stake. That's why they relentlessly fight against gay couples and lesbian couples being able to marry, adopt children, and have other "inalienable" and "equal" rights under the law. That's why so many of them actually want homosexuality OUTLAWED. That's why they PROTEST and PICKET at the FUNERALS of OUR SOLDIERS, imposing on the families' and friends' grief by shouting out and waving signs that say "GOD HATES FAGS!!!" and "DEATH TO ALL FAGS!!!", etc. That's why they relentlessly fight against a woman's right to do whatever she wishes with HER OWN BODY and whatever may be inside of it. That's why adultery is illegal in this country. That's why prostitution is illegal in this country. That's why they vehemently protest ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in this country that is deemed even REMOTELY "anti-Christian" ("anti-THEM"), such as the teaching of Evolution in schools; movies like "The Golden Compass", "The Da Vinci Code", and the entire "Harry Potter" saga; and the assimilation of immigrants into this country who happen to follow other religions, like Islam. That's why the right of "Freedom of Religion" in our society is perfectly fine with them -- just as long as it's THEIR religion. That's why the saying "There can be no Freedom of Religion without freedom FROM religion" is such an abomination to them.

Christians support FREEDOM??? HA! Since when???

(And no, I'm not saying that ALL Christians do all of the above. I know very well that there are millions who don't -- but there are just as many Christians, if not more, who do.)

Sadly, mere facts aren't enough to change the minds of reactionary Christians who have been told that the ACLU is somehow out to get them.

Somehow the fact that the ACLU fights for Christians' rights too offends some Christians more than anything else they do.

The ACLU is completely anti-Christian.

The fact that they throw a few bones our way is not enough.

THEY have decided, on THEIR own, what Christianity is, and what THEY will allow Christianity to be.

They don't decide for me, I do, God does, they DON'T.

Want a friend of Christians? Check out the ACLJ.

They fight the ACLU to protect Christians and Religious freedoms.

ACLU always sides against Christians.

Of course not. They regularly defend the rights of Christians, as the link demonstrates. They simply don't believe (unlike most Americans) that Christians deserve special privileges.

I find sometimes their over zealousness is as damaging as the thing they are fighting for. But I support them in principal.
