neosporin with pain relief. you can even mix it with a dab of vit e oil and just rub it in, esp. over nite. it was the only thing that would control the cracking and bleeding for me. hope this helps! wash with dove soap.

RE:
What is the best thing to put on extremely dry, cracked bleeding hands?
The skin on my hands is so dry they just crack and bleed, it hurts so bad, this only happens in the wintertime. I tried Johnson's baby lotion and that just made it worse, what's the best thing to use?

Corn Huskers Lotion (Oil Free) I have the same problem as you do, during the entire winter. I have tried numerous lotions as none really help. Several people suggest that I try Corn Huskers and I picked some up about a week ago, it has worked wonders on my hands and especially my knuckles. The good thing is that you can pick this up at Walmart and it was only about $2.50 so you wouldn't be out a lot of money if it didn't help. Also, if you are like me I cant stand greasy, at also. This goes on like a gel (reminds me of aloe gel during the summer), it feels kinda cold and soothing, but dries completely and you would never know it was even on your hands.

I've had a similar problem with dry, cracked skin on my hands in winter months. And it was because I mistakenly washed my hands with soap that wasn't meant for washing hands.
Some soaps such as dishwashing soap and various shampoos are designed to take the fat and the grease out of whatever it is they are washing. But if you happen to use such soaps on your hands, then they wash out all the natural fatty acids from your skin and make the skin dry and fragile.
Lotions for cracked skin won't help much, unless you find out why your skin is cracked and try to eliminate the cause.

Try olive oil. Warm a pair of thick socks in the dryer, to warm up. Wash your hands with as warm of water as you can stand. Pat dry. Apply oil generously, then cover with warm socks. Keep socks on for 20 or so minutes. Do this a few times a day as needed. Works wonders.

I mix one capsule of vitamin E in with some unscented colloidial oatmeal lotion by Aveeno. I do this every night before I go to bed and get up in the am. Works wonders! I have the same problem all year round due to washing hands repeatedly (I'm a nurse).

Don't use baby lotion or Gold Bond or whatever. Use a product that is specifically for dry skin. If you can't find anything at your local drugstore, you could go to Amazon.com and set the search category to "Health & Personal Care" and search for "Dry Skin".

If you can get over-the-counter cortisone cream, try it. I think something around 5% is OTC, but it may be different where you live. Try this- lots of cream, with cotton gloves and then plastic baggies over your hands overnight.
If your skin is bleeding, see a doctor or a dermatologist and try to get something better than OTC cream.

Vaseline, it's also good for dry craked feet. or to prevent chapped lips and things like that. Especially in the winter.

j/k um.... i doubt there's anything wrong with your skin that simply putting lotion/cream on can't fix. it's just extreme dryness. it happens during winter.
certain lotions don't work well, like Johnson's or Lubriderm. Gold Bond Ultimate Healing lotion is very good. it's so thick, it's more like a cream than a lotion. and it's hypoallergenic. Aveeno and Eucerin brands work well also.
lotion works best after washing hands, so keep the lotion next to the sink.
