I love the harp and cello.

Harp, violin, and piano would be my three choices. "Pachelbel's Canon in D" played on any one of those instruments instantly puts me in a mellow mood.

How incredibly ironic. I play the harp, and I want to learn the cello, because I find both of them to be the most inspiring.

Friend.
Actually Flute and Violin are two beautiful instruments , which when played by maestros take your mind to unknown regions.
They are both capable of soothing , or calming your mind and reducing the tension etc.
The Violin especially is so called because it is really Vaayu leenam ( That merges into wind).When played by the competent persons really you can not distinguish the peak sound Violin is really that of Violin or That of Flute.
So these two are most inspiring to me.

Bass player for over 20 years. And Rush, Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Flea (Peppers) are most inspiring(even though I've played everything and anything played by any of the bassists from these groups). I find bass guitar to be most expressive. Just like Jaco Pastorius' bass playing. Freaking AWESOME bassist. (RIP Jaco).

As a musician, I love my flute. I love the sound it produces and I love hearing others play it. Some are so good that I feel like the person's soul is coming through the music. I also love hearing a harpsichord.

Kudos for the first answer! The musician is the inspiration.
But for sound alone, I am in awe of so many of the brass: trumpets, french horns, trombones. They just add so much richness to everything they're in.
For individual instruments: The fiddle/ violin really gets to me. Fiddle style gets my feet bouncing and violin just moves through me. Silky-smooth. MAGNIFICENT!

Oh, the Harp for me as well. The celeste is my next favorite. I get the shivers. Next is the South American flute. So haunting!!!!
