During this holiday season, should atheists be able to put up a public display like various theist groups do?

Your thoughts?

I thought it was a very poignant, sober message.

They followed the correct channels, and should be entitled to put their message out there.

I have been to three Prides before, all of which were family-friendly events and there was no obscene nudity or PDA. I do however, understand your concern. I have had friends who previously went to San Fran Pride this summer and the horrendous things that they have told me, wow. So in all, I think it depends on which Pride you go to, that you will actually see the things you are talking about. BUT, if you are saying that homosexuals can't display any PDA, you should have to say heterosexuals shouldn't be able to either. EDIT: I understand completely where you're coming from. I do agree with Joey ^ that there are certain people who like to point fingers and make us look bad based on a few people's actions. Just as with the heterosexual community, there are many who are professional and many who aren't. There's no winning. You are certainly right about the obscenity being remembered the most or only. But remember, who will be the people that remember it? The ones that don't like homosexuals. They'll knit and pick at anything and EVERYTHING to make these Pride events looks bad.

Hey I think it's awesome that a couple of atheists found a positive way to go about celebrating the Winter Solstice. If only more of us would do that....

As far as the christians attempting to one-up the atheists by putting up a BIGGER christmas tree....I wonder if they're aware that the christmas tree is a pagan symbol????

I think the sign is hateful. There is a vast difference between demanding equality and being hurtful. I'm sure if Atheists want some equal time during the holiday seasons, they can come up with a way that doesn't drag up the dead and missing. I highly doubt anyone who lost someone in that tragedy will think it's a good message, no matter their religion or belief.

What is wrong with people this time of year? Seriously, just celebrate your belief in a respectful manner and ignore the Grinches and Scrooges. I can't understand why this time of year has to be a war between who can celebrate what and how to get back at those who don't share your belief. And it's at every side of the fence.

My Christmas wish every year is for this bickering to end.

I'm loving it. But possibly the timing could have been more appropriate. Sept 11th for example.

We are bombarded by religious symbols everywhere, it would be nice to occasionally see the truth displayed.

I am an atheist and I do not care.

What you suggesting is like people not interested in football (or commercials) having an alternative party on Superbowl night.

I'm all for free speech and equality. If other groups can, shouldn't atheists be able too?

Atheists don't have religious displays.

Y'all just don't get it. Atheists don't believe in all the crapola - none of it...

Try to think on that......we don't believe in ANY religion, any god, any "display", any heaven or hell, any christ or saint, any apostle thingie....

I think they already do....

Everywhere I go I see "Happy Holidays"...and not "Merry Christmas".

That is an atheistic act, and is done so specifically because the atheists have sued, threatened, boycotted their way to this point.

Where, anywhere is there a Nativity scene, or a Merry Christmas sign, or the religious Carols being sung. (not Jingle Bells, White Christmas, os Santa Claus is coming to town)..in public display?

So, I think the atheists now have more rights in this matter..
