I am very interested in joining the peace corps after college because I feel like I need a break. Most of all, it is something that I have always wanted to do.
Everything is fine with me as far as being physically fit, mentally healthy.
I'm not sure what skill they'll want from me but I am ready to do whatever they want me to.
Only thing is that I have braces and I am afraid that that will stop me from going. Or if Peace Corps will cover for it when I am abroad.
Would that be a problem at all?

I'm sure that braces will not be a problem, have you tried contacting them directly?

Here's what I know from personal experience, they want your college degree to have some kind of applicable, real-world application that will be useful to those in the developing nations. A carpenter, plumber, engineer, math teacher, ESL teacher, etc. I have a double degree in Political Science and Sociology and they told me I wasn't "marketable" to them, meaning I had no tangible skills. Good luck to you and I hope you find what you are looking for.

"I am very interested in joining the peace corps after college because I feel like I need a break."

You aren't going to get a break in the Peacecorps. It is an intense experience that will require a lot of physical and mental exertion.

"I'm not sure what skill they'll want from me"
Something that fills a gap in skills in a particular area (no one else has that skill but it is much needed), or something that you can transfer to others in the area, to help them prosper.

Being chosen to serve in the PeaceCorps is a highly-competetive process -- *most* people who apply are not chosen to serve. So you need to make sure you have a lot going for you in terms of skills and experience. In addition to your degree, the PeaceCorps also considers what jobs you have held and what volunteering you have done, as well as your language skills. I have a lot of information on how to prepare yourself for eventual work overseas with the PeaceCorps or other volunteer-sending-organization on the web site listed below.

You say that you have "braces" -- where? On your legs? On your teeth? If you require regular medical care, that may, indeed, prevent you from being chosen for the PeaceCorps, because the medical care you receive regularly may not be available -- not because you wouldn't be able to undertake the assignment. If it's something you could manage yourself (for instance, when I was in Kabul -- not as a PeaceCorps person -- I had some colleagues who went to Dubai every few months for regular medical treatments), you should note such as you progress through the application process.

I served in the Peace Corps 35 years ago with a Mechanical Engineer who used braces and crutches because he had had polio as a child. Braces will not disqualify you. You get dental care, if you meant teeth braces.

The skills they want are the skills host countries ask for. If every host country asked for math teachers, that's the skill they would want. If every host country asked for left-handed red-haired glass blowers, that's the skill they would want.

Most host coutries are strong on education, engineering and agricultural types. I taught English as a second language. My daughter is working in health education.
