The Greek words for baptism (baptisma, baptizo, etc.) are found over 100 times in the New Testament in their various forms.
Many people in Christendom have the same fundamental misunderstanding about baptism. This comes from the reformation heritage of Protestantism that is rooted in Sola Fide (“faith alone”). This was a reaction to the abuses of the Catholic church in teaching that you must earn salvation through meritorious works, penance, indulgences, etc.
The New Testament definitely makes it clear that salvation is centered in our faith. Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.” How much clearer could Paul be?
Because baptism is a physical act (physical water, physical dunking, etc.), it is misperceived by many folks as a work, as something separate and apart from faith.
Now, you have to look at the context to understand the meaning of the word “work.” Romans 4 tells us that Abraham was justified by faith apart from works, but James 2 tells us that Abraham was justified by faith and works. The two different writers were just using the same word to mean two different things. Even belief is called a work in John 6:29, so you just have to look at the context. A work (in Eph. 2) is something that you do to earn salvation. I need to underline that word “earn.” There have always been people who think they can earn salvation by doing enough good deeds (which, of course, you can’t).
The thing is, baptism is presented in the Scriptures, not as a work to earn salvation, but as a response of faith—as an act of submission.
And just as a side note, the only place in the Bible that says “faith alone” is in James 2:24 which says “not by faith alone.”

I will tell you what the Bible says about baptism and I hope that you will be willing to accept His will. I read the above comments about the theif on the cross being saved and it is important to notice that it was BEFORE Christ died on the cross. Therefore, the thief was still under the Old Testament. Once the testator died, which is Christ, we fall under the New Testament where baptism is essential.
1) Baptsm is ESSENTIAL to be saved
Acts 2:38 One is baptized for the remission of sins.
Acts 22:16 To put way away your sins.
1 Pe 3:21 Baptism saves.
Mark 16:16 Belief + Baptism = Salvation.
Gal 3:26-27 To come into Christ.
Acts 10:47-48 Its a command from God.
Mat 28:18-20 Jesus commands that all be baptized.
2) In what form should you be baptized?
Rom 6:4 A burial with Christ in baptism.
Col 2:12 Buried in baptism and raised up.
John 3:3-5 A new birth.
Acts 8:38-39 You need to go down the water.
Rom 6:2-4 It cannot be anything else then immersion
"Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
John 3:23 It needs much water.
3) Purpose of Baptism
Acts 2:38 To receive the remission of sins.
Gal 3:26-27 To get ito the body of Christ.
Acts 2:46 To be added to the kingdom.
2 Cor 5:17 To become a new creature.
Rom 6:4 To receive a new life.
4) Who should be baptized?
Rom 10:17 Those who have heard the word.
Acts 2:41 Those who have received the word.
Mat 28:19 Those who have been taught.
Mark 16:15-16 Those who believe in Christ.
Acts 2:37 Those convicted of their sins.
Babies cannot ebe baptized - They did not heard, received, been taught, believed in the word, etc.
Acts 2:38 Those willing to repent of sins.
5) The result of baptism
1 Pe 3:21 Receiving salvation (only if they endure until the end Rev 2:10).
Acts 2:47 Being added to the Church.
Col 1:13-14 Being translated in the kingdom of light from the kingdom of darkness.
Acts 22:16 Your sins will be washed away.
Acts 2:38 You will receive the remission of your sins.
Concerning the comment that you made concerning God accepting someone to heaven even if that person was not baptized is contradicting His word. God is not a regarder of person. He is expecting every one to repent and to do His will including being baptized. Therefore, if you didn't beleive, repented, confessed Christ, be baptized and lived faithfuly, then you cannot expect to receive the reward.
If you didn't do these things, why would you not do them and be saved?

Greetings to all, I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and I thank the one true and living God for his perfect wisdom and understanding and for sending his word to call our attention back to what is written in the book of scriptures, now lets dive into the the book (the Bible).
Baptism is found in many places in the scriptures and is very important to our relationship with God. The scriptures teach us that God created man in his image and after his likeness (Genesis 1:27). Many believe that means he created man a 3 part being consisting of soul. spirit and body (true). It is commonly said that God have 3 persons which are the Father, the Son and the holy Ghost (false). For this reason it is said that God created man a 3 part being but God do not have 3 persons, in fact God make known that he is God alone and none stand beside him (Deuteronomy 4:35, 32:39, 1st Samuel 2:2). And no I am not saying that the Lord Jesus and the Holy Ghost do not exist or is irrelevent.
When he created man he created him Holy (without sin) but we lost this nature in the garden. God want for the human family to be like him. He command for us to be holy because that is what God is (Leviticus 11:44, 19:2, 20:26, 21:8, 1st Peter 1:16)
Now the Lord Jesus is the expressed image of God (Hebrews 1:3) and our example to live by. Before the Lord Jesus did a thing he was first baptized (Matt 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-23). We to likewise should be baptized following the Lords lead if nothing genuinally prevent us from doing so (Luke 23:39-43). All that the Lord Jesus did was inspired by the Father of creation (John 5:19, 8:28) so baptism have to be inspired by the Most High God, the Creator of all things. Also sprinkling water on ones head is not scripture you have to be fully submerged in the water (Matt 3:16) to be baptized and to end read Act 2:38 and see how Peter ended his teaching on the day of pentecost.

Yes, baptism is in the Bible and is something that every professing Christian should do if possible. There is an exception in the case of baptism being impossible, just read about the thief that was crucified with and saved by the Lord.

I was 15 when I got Baptised, up to that time I was not baptised and was not planning to because I was so afraid to stand in front of so many people.
The Bible says to not be ashamed of me (Jesus) in this wicked and perverse generation.
One of the first things Jesus did was be Baptised by John the Baptist.
We are to follow fully in the steps of Christ. I do not fully know the reasons for your not wanting to be Baptised however I know that whatever reasons should be put aside to allow God to take pleasure in this faithfull act even if you have reservations about it. It is not so often in the day that we can have the opportunity to do something that is pleasing to God.
When you are Baptised soon dont think its an act that will soon most likely fade away with other concerns filling the picture. You will remember this act until the day you die, it will be a memory that will warm your heart on many cold and rough days. God,Christ, the Holy spirit and the angels will be there in attendance and it will be enetered in as record on their books in rememberance of you.
With so many in this culture so eager to represent that which is unholy and perverse, why dont you represent something that is good and holy.
Stand up and not be afraid.

I believe that baptism is an important commandment of Jesus to follow, but not that it is necessary for salvation. I say this because of the famous story about the thief on the cross next to Jesus. He trusted in Jesus just hours before death and Jesus said that that very day the thief would be in Heaven. Obviously, with the thief being crucified, he did not have a chance to get baptized.
Luke 23: 39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
In answer to your other question, baptism is *all over* the Bible, and in fact is one of the last things that Jesus ever talked about on the earth.
In addition, it was a tradition amongst the Israelites *before* Christ for anyone who converted to Judaism.
Again, not a prerequisite to get into Heaven. But definitely talked about a *lot* in scripture and commanded by Jesus.

Yes, Jesus was biptised and instructed other to do so. Unless you are Catholic, baptism has nothing to do with being accepted into heaven. Baptism is simply a public way to acknowledge your salvation.
The only way into heaven is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. To acknowledge that he took on your sins when he died on the cross.
