Just curious. I've seen it come up a couple times today, and I'd love to try some mead. Where the heck do you get it?

Thanks. :-)

Mead is the easiest alcoholic beverage on Earth to make. One part honey, one part water, and a package of yeast. One package per every two gallons of honey-water mix. Some like to use brewers Yeast (active yeast, not the edible kind you can buy in a health food shop). I prefer to use champagne yeast because it adds a lot more carbonation to the final product. Let it sit for 6 to 10 weeks and it will be about 18% alcohol. It's absolutely delicious.

Home made!

Avoid Chaucers!

We have a mead maker in our kindred and wow - his mead is to die for (with few exceptions). His best is a Honey Maple mead that flows over the tongue smoothly. Next best is grape mead.

Perhaps do a google search for mead? Getting it shipped might be a problem.

ICTa - I don't know what you've been reading but mead is simply fermented honey. Necter of the gods might be gone but some good mead is out there. Our brewer makes some mead that can knock someone off their feet and is darn tasty.

I actually got a great recipe for mead and how to mull wines in a back issue of Llywen's magical almanac. I'll try to find what year..

If you live by Whole Foods, Trander Joe's, or Merchant Vino, those would be great places to try. There's no Wild Oats around here, but I'd say it looks like it would be a good place to try.

The real "Mead" was harvested and made by apiaries that had bees who are now extinct. Anyone who claims to have Mead is only dreaming of a much inferior product.

I don't drink mead. I like beer much better. I made elderberry wine when I was young (with my father) but haven't since.

They're local enough to me to be available in the better stores.

Oh, and I concur. Chaucer's is disgusting. It's drunk by emos trying to be all poety.
