Well, I was just wondering... what makes an Athiest an Athiest?? I mean... yeah, I know you don't believe in God or whatever, but what makes you not believe in God? There's just so much evidence and proof that God does exist. Please no vulgar or rude answers. I'm not racist and I don't have anything prejudiced against Athiests. I'm just very inquisitve and a little curious on that topic.

Thanks =)

Willful blindness and deafness. You will find that at the foundation of their unbelief is a strong resentment of God's judgment.

Yes, please cite these proofs for God, then we'll talk.

Edit: You're basically saying: We don't know how everything came to be, so God must exist.

Evolution and abiogenesis seem to work well with what we can observe, these are good theories. As for matter and energy, I don't know, possibly they always existed. The fact that we don't know doesn't call for the immediate placement of a God theory. We understand so many things now that we've never understood before. All these things were attributed to God. We used to think that we're at the center of the universe and all of it was made for us to look at. God "painted" the stars for us. Despite the ever-growing mass of natural explanations people keep on moving God. Something at first that had no natural explanation was attributed to God, then after the thing can be explained the concept of God moves further into the things we are ignorant of. Evolution for instance. Before evolutionary theory all of the animals, every one, was uniquely constructed by God, but now it is the accepted theory that they evolved from former organisms. After that some would say that God made the first spark, then after we have a solid theory for abiogenesis people will say that God created all matter. Some say, "God said "..." and bang there came the universe." So you can see that life turned out to not be proof for God, just as the existence of matter is not proof of God.

There is no evidence or proof that God exists. If there was, then there wouldn't be any atheists.

"The way things work" is not proof of a "God". "God" is just the way people try to explain the things that they don't understand. Atheists are just able to say "We don't know yet" how certain things work, without feeling the need to make up stories about magical, invisible, supernatural beings and then claim that they are responsible.

I just don't believe in the existence of gods because I have no reason to.

There's no real proof that God exists. The Bible does not count, seeing as it tends to condradict itself and is written by many people, and translated by even more. An example of a contradiction would be Thou Shalt Not Kill and thou shall not suffer a witch to live.
There's a quote that my Catholic English teacher told us to explian: "We are here and it is now. All other human knowledge is moonshine." When it gets down to proving things just about the only thing we're really sure of is that, one, we are here and it's happening now.
But what troubles me is that you seem to think that evidence and proof are necessary for you to believe in God, as you see him. Religion is about faith, and faith doesn't require facts or proof. That's what makes it faith and not facts.

Sorry honey, but the only proof that anyone has ever attempted to bring forward is meaningless speculation. No hard, unequivocal evidence.

Plus, there are so many different religions and religious beliefs, it's impossible to count any one as more credible or reliable than the other. Why Christianity and not Islam? Why Judaism and not Hinduism?

A basic high school education should have taught you quite plain and simply how the Earth was created, and would have provided you with a basic overall knowledge of biology and science in general. I can only think you were home schooled by 3 year olds.

FYI, racism is a feeling of hatred for a race other than your own. It has absolutely nothing to do with how you feel towards atheists. Please read a book or two, you are in desperate need.

*sigh*

First, it's "atheist".

Please, I'd like to know what proof there is. Please email me with that, thanks.

What makes me an atheist is simply the fact that the notion of a deity is absurd. It's rather easy to see why a deity (or the multitude of them) was created- to explain what could not be explained. If you didn't know what lightening was and didn't know how to explain it, wouldn't the easiest explanation be "god did it"?

God is a construct of man, used to make him feel better about life.

Oh, when you email me that overwhelming proof that god exists, please omit the bible, nature, the universe, humans and all other species on the planet. Those aren't proof, sorry.

"God" does not have to be a person. "God" could be an energy. I don't think Athiests don't believe in ANYTHING---the ones I know are very spiritual. They just don't believe that any ONE religion has the monopoly on TRUTH. Think about all the major wars in history---what have they been fought over? RELIGION! Someone who really "walks the walk" will live their life in love and be open minded to others who have their own beliefs. What a peaceful place the world would be.

Actually, there is not evidence God exists. The existence of the natural world by no means proves your supernatural diety. Logical proofs for god are invalid. I'm sorry, but skeptical analysis destroys any theistic argument.

We don't believe in God simply because there is no good reason to do so, and plenty of good reasons not to.

Even if the "evidence and proof" was there as you say, that would not compel me to believe in God. I know Christianity exists, but I do not believe in it. I know war exists, but I do not believe in it. This God would have to prove that belief in its existence offered me something positive, and was more than a meaningless mental exercise, before I would waste any effort on adding it to my beliefs.

I guess I'm sort of an atheist by default. To me it's not so much that God doesn't exist, it's that if God does exist, he/she/it doesn't really comply with the descriptions given by organized religion. And that being the case, is pretty much uninvolved in our daily lives, and certainly doesn't have the ego that would require people to bow down or placate him/her/it as organized religion would suggest. Certainly none of them speak for God. When religions describe God they describe a petulant, petty, easily offended being that frankly, is not very likable. They describe a fairy tale. The best description I've heard for God is that God is an unknowable essence. If that's the case then, WTF? In short, it doesn't matter if there is a God or not. I'm still gonna get presents for Christmas.
