NativeAtlantean (13 percent best answers, level 4, top contributor), posting in martial arts, two hours ago asked, "Do You Think Bruce Lee Was The Best Fighter Ever OR Just The Best Fighter That Became Famous?"

Lets look at this question from the stand point of a life and death struggle. Say you put two guys in a 40x40 room in a fight to the death finish.

Do you think that Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, or anyone else would survive?

Try answering this by who has the highest black belt degree and the martial arts experience fighting in life or death struggles like mentioned above. How many martial artist have ever been such matches?

Try William Kwai Sun Chow at 15th degree black belt as your answer! William Kwai Sun Chow, about five to ten years prior to his death was ranked as 20th degree blank belt, but such standing was not recognized by the martial arts community.

Who is the true successor to William Kwai Sun Chow and can you steal a martial arts name and community from anyone?

MY COMMENTS:

Adam J, I try not to give people thumbs down and I try to always be a positive person. Yahoo! Answers and not I, it seems, has closed this question, today, 7 hours after I posted it.

To address your comment: "to say who is the best is really impossible."

It is possible to determine who is the best.

The martial arts community should know or so be informed.

Truth should stand firm over assumptions!

It is not fair for Yahoo! Answers to close this question 7 hours after posting.

I wasn't even aware black belts went above 10th degree in most styles. And Bruce Lee is definitely not the best, even though I do appreciate his efforts to popularize Martial Arts. He was beaten by Gene Lebell, who helped train one of the Shamrocks (forgot which one), that ended up winning UFC.

I think only competition can weed out the best martial arts. And for this, you have to see who is simplest the biggest winner in international tournaments with as many different competitors as possible.

I really dislike the argument that there's a monk somewhere that can beat everyone. They haven't been attacked in centuries (for real), and no experience = moot in my book.

Just like you can't argue a random dude in the back alley is better at baseball or basketball than the pros.

There is no way to answer this question. Some of the best Martial Artist live in places people have never heard of. Bruce Lee was a Martial Arts phenom and he could be considered for the best ever. He would get into fights on the street so he could gain some "real fight" experience. But to say who is the best is really impossible.

Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) was history's greatest martial artist. He was the founder of Aikido, which can be translated as "The Art of Peace." Morihei Ueshiba is referred to by the practitioners of Aikido as O-Sensei, "The Great Teacher".
You can go to just about any Aikido web site to find this information.

My personal opinion Wong Fei Hung. His tiger crane form is one of my favorites. His wooden long staff and the southern tiger trident contribution is very impressive too.
