Today with the expansion of the Fire services and the need for persons who can handle emergencies, many firefighters trained as medical technicians. This became the start of paramedic training. Many smaller communities also purchased their own ambulance which was staffed with paramedics. This was due to slow responses from ambulances housed in the city. Not all firefighters are paramedics but all firefighters have some training in first aid.

No, all firefighters have been trained in basic first aid, CPR, etc. but not all are paramedics.

No; but many larger Fire Departments require their Fire Fighters to be EMT-Ps because they are first responders for so many medical calls.
