It would really help to see the essay to help to wrap it up - but , yes, I agree Genesis is the foundational book-
it is where God gives us a picture through the gifts of marriage, family and worship of what our relationship with Him should be- from the very beginning we see evidence that God wrote His laws upon the hearts of man- we see justice tempered with mercy, law balanced with grace- we are given the promise of our redemption and salvation and are walked through the fire of refinement for sanctification and restoration of relationship with our creator.

Genesis may be the foundational book of scripture FOR THE OLD TESTAMENT but it's NOT the foundational book for the NEW TESTAMENT. Subjects re: marriage, family & worship took a solidly different turn as recorded in the New Testament. Your thesis would be better like this: "From Beginning to End: Since there's no doubt that the book of Genesis is the foundational book of Scripture, where are the ideas of creation, marriage, family and worship in the Book of Revelation?"

Genesis means beginings, it is the story of redemption also, it is the beginning of a wonderful love story between humans and God, remember how God came down and taught adam and eve how to make clothes, and no doubt them how to make so many other things. Genesis also gives that hint of Jesus coming to, Our Saviour, bruising the head of satan, will crush him totally in the end. Joseph is a type of Christ to, saving his brothers, and a whole nation until moses comes along, what a great book.

one of the things I like to point out is the fact that Eve is called the wife of Adam.
In my opinion this epitomizes that idea that God alone can join people in marriage. God does not have any reason to obey the laws or traditions of people.
The word used in Genesis is not what some would call the "proper" Hebrew word for wife, rather it is a word that means "woman", or the complimentary opposite of man and it can be used to describe a wife.
The more "proper" Hebrew word for wife means more like servant of or owned by.
The interesting thing is that the word used to denote Eve, which is used more often in Genesis, implies more of an equal partnership then other Hebrew or Aramaic words in the Old Testament which are used to describe a wife.
I found this interesting and it maybe something you want to follow up on and research for your thesis.

The book of Genesis is a book of beginnings, that is what the word means. I am not sure that is the same as "foundational".

Sorry Mike I'd like to give you a hand, but that's not enough information for me. I think I'd have to read the whole thing before before I could get a concluding paragraph in my aged brain. You do know there are two creation stories in some Bibles don't you?
Good luck on your paper.

You should compare Genesis and the first Chapter of John. Especially when writting about creation.

And the book of Genesis is also the book that contains the first prophecy. Read Genesis 3:15. This prophecy shows that Jesus Christ would get hurt in his heel, but Jesus Christ would strike the Serpents head and kill him.
The entire bible is based on this prophecy. Satan the devil hurt Jesus' heel when Jesus died. In the future, Jesus Christ will eliminate Satan the devil forever.
Jehovah is the true God and Jesus is his son.

yeah...you are right, but don't forget that in the book of Genesis, our ancestor rebelled against God's authority, and that was the first rebellion of man.

We see why people are the way they are and the awesome power of God to not only create, but destroy His creation and start over again.
