I need to make it look like I am hugging someone. I have the right pictures set out but I'm not sure if it is possible to look convincing. Is it possible? If so, can you tell me how to make it look more realistic?

You will need to make several layers - with at least one layer for each person.
Then you will need to create a mask for each layer so you can erase portions of the image. (you do this by painting on the mask not using the eraser tool)
You may need to scale one image and also do color balancing and brightness/contrast so the images look the same. You can do this since they are on separate layers.
That is the basic concepts. You need to read or find tutorials for each of the techniques and practice.
