I think I have an Idea and I just wanted to see if someone out there could give me feed back. If one were to send sea water over super heated stainless steel plates and then collect the resulting steam would that steam not be saline free?

Distillation is a method of desalination that has been used. Other methods such as reverse osmosis require less energy in put.

Yes you can use evaporation. It requires a great deal of energy, even if you use the heat from the steam to heat the incoming water. A membrane is more efficient in terms of energy.

Yes! The water evaporates and becomes water vapor. But, when the water evaporates, the salt stays in the ocean. The water that evaporated, now is freshwater! Isn't that neat the way that works!?!

Yes, you can desalinize water by evaporation.

You could use sound to "purify" water of living organisms. It would not remove them but it would kill them. The purification you are talking about requires that the "impurities" be removed. Not sure how sound waves will remove anything from water.
