I lost 35 LBS in 2 months by running a tread mill every day. I cut out soda, reduced my sugar / chocolate in-take then cut back on my calorie intake.
Running I started out by walking 1/2 mile to warm up then 1 mile run 4-5 mile per-hour then 1 mile walk to cool down some then ran 2 miles rounding out with a 1/2 mile cool down. I worked up to this. I had been walking 4 miles a day for a year before this. Good Luck, Hope you make it.

You definitly need to just get a lot of cardio like running with some mild weight lifting to help burn the fat. A good diet is also key, lots of fruit veggies & fish instead of red meats. Try & keep the carb intake balanced so you always buring more carbs than you eat but also eat enough carbs to stay healthy & happy. Dont forget to take breaks so not to over exert yourself & dont take to many you fall out of the routine. If your really serious about the army this wil be a great motivation for you to see it through & it will definitly help your self dicipline. Also you may not have to lose all of maybe if you just get within 15lbs of 160 like 175lbs or under you can get a waiver. From what you described you will have some obsticales but once you do it & drop the weight & raise a kid at the same time then you will be able to handle anything in life after. Good luck & follow your heart in whatever you do.

I hate to say it, but you lose weight at about the same rate you gain it. Never-the-less, here are some tips that will help take off the pounds:
Exercise at least 20 minutes a day. That is do something that gets your heart rate up to at least 50% higher than it is resting. Also, if you run, do crunches, situps, pushups and pullups, you will be better able to pass the physical fitness test when you get out of basic training.
Portion control - most restaurants serve more food than you need to eat at one sitting. Try cutting the portion in half and eating it for two meals instead of one.
Take small bites and chew thoroughly. You have a "hungry button" and when it switches off, you don't feel hungry anymore. Eating quickly gets you past the not hungry stage.
Don't do anything but eat when you eat. Reading, watching television or working while you eat makes you less aware of your body and when to stop eating.
If possible, eat with people and talk. That allows you to eat more slowly.
Don't drink alcohol before eating. Alcohol suppresses that "hungry button" I mentioned. Drinking wine or beer with a meal is okay.
Learn to stop eating when you aren't hungry anymore. Most of us overweight people continiue eating until we are full or stuffed. That's the way to more rather than fewer pounds.
Eat healthy. You need less meat than you do vegetables and grains. A steak about the size of the palm of your hand is enough protein to get you through the day. When you eat bread, rolls or starchy food like potatoes, use little or no butter or jelly.
Avoid canned or prepared food or meals. These have more salt in them than is healthy. That salt can help your body retain water and water is weight too.
Weigh youself about twice a week, in the morning, before breakfast. You won't lose weight quickly, and if you weigh yourself everyday, the loss won't be as noticeable. Morale is important in weight loss.
Don't expect miracles and don't try for quick and easy. those just won't happen and if you lose weight too quickly, you can get sick.
Losing 70 pounds may take as long as year and a half. Keep trying. If you gorge once, just continue eating sensibly the next time.
Find a support group. Weight Watchers can work. But you have to find the people who are right for you.
Good luck. I hope you make it.

Start working out. Id start slow if you havent been doing any exercise seriously. Start by walking then move up to jogging. Do any cardio workouts you can find. Then once you get a good workout schedule stick to it, and increase the tempo of your workouts as you progress. Just remember that you have to continue challenging yourself and stay with the program you start. You may not see results immediately but you have to stick with it, they wont show overnight. Dont get disheartened when it hurts because thats where the results come from, and I cant stress enough to make sure you stick with it, it will work. Also it won't get done without a good diet to accompany it. You cant slip on that either. You won't fullfil your dream if you don't show dedication to it. You sound pretty serious and determined though, I think you'll be ok. Good Luck! If you need any specific advice feel free to email me and I will be glad to help.

One : if you are a single parent you MAY NOT ENLIST. You may NOT give up custody to enlist and you may NOT gain custody back at all during the first term(4-6 years)
Two: there is no healthy, safe way to lose that much weight quickly. 2 pounds a week is doable. No recruiter will even talk to you until you are within ten pounds of your max weight, and most will make you lose an extra 5-10 for a cushion.

Agreed, the army especially would be tough for a single parent. Extremely long deployments and it is extremely physically demanding. Maybe try Navy, or Air Force.

If your a single parent they probably wouldn't take you without you signing your rights over to a parent or someone else. It's something they make people do and you should do alot of cardio to loose the fastest.

Anything that would cause you to lose weight fast is dangerous/could make you have a heart attack. Exercise and eat right and good luck!

Are you a single parent? Quite frankly, the military is no place for a single parent.
