It is very clear in scripture that is was because of pride that Satan rebelled against God, and it is the same reason for man rebelling against God. Satan wanted to be in charge and not submit to God, just like man does not want to submit to God but be in charge. This is why God says pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

The apocryphal texts on the subject (that is stories that became part of Christian lore but are not found in the Bible) say that the sin of Lucifier was pride. The sin of Sataniel (which became another name for Lucifer and who stars in a similar story about the War in Heaven) was wrath.

The stories are mythological and metaphorical although too many people regard them as literal events involving real supernatural entities. The War in Heaven is the war withnin the soul and psyche. The story is about the higher self (represented by the archangels and the desire to strive for a higher ideal) overcoming the lower, ego-centered and bestial self (represented by the fallen angels). A smiliar myth exists in Hinduism in which the Great Goddess , who represents the combined power of the gods, slays a demon that has the form of a water buffalo and that represents the "Great Ego." The Goddess battles and overcomes the buffalo-demon and thereby restores the order of the universe.

Satan appears to have been jealous of God's power and wanted to obtain some by force.

The temptation to force people to do what we want is prevalent today and many give in to it for what they feel are worthy goals. What they don't realize is this only gives the illusion of doing something good. The ends never justify the means, and liberty is an unalienable right given to us by God.

Simple: Satan hated God's Freedom.

He also had some problems with God's claim of Unitary Executive Power and illegal wiretapping.

He wanted the Glory.

1 And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying: That Satan, whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning, and he came before me, saying—Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore give me thine honor.
2 But, behold, my Beloved Son, which was my Beloved and Chosen from the beginning, said unto me—Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever.
3 Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him, and also, that I should give unto him mine own power; by the power of mine Only Begotten, I caused that he should be cast down;

Don't need to God said he was one on the rebellious. Do you ever wonder what makes a person rebel against God. Most people don't they just know they are rebellious. I guess you could look into it more if you wanted to, but I myself would prefer trying to get closer to God then Satan.

Yes, the five "I"s.

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
