Revelation 1:12-16
12 ¶ And I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; 13 and in the middle of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His breast with a golden girdle. 14 And His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire; 15 and His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been caused to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. 16 And in His right hand He held seven stars; and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.

Verse thirteen identifies this person as a "Son of Man."
This phrase occurs 88 times in the New Testament, and everyone of them is a reference to Jesus Christ. It was Jesus' favorite appelation for Himself.

That Rev 1:13 refers to jesus may further deduced from Revelation 14:14.
14 ¶ And I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, having a golden crown on His head, and a sharp sickle in His hand.

Now ask yourself these questions:
Who rides on the clouds?
Who in Heaven has the golden crown?
Who holds the sharp sickle in His hand?

This is an allegory for Jesus who judges the peoples and nations.

His appearance in this form is foreshadowed in Daniel 7:9 "I kept looking Until thrones were set up, And the Ancient of Days took His seat; His vesture was like white snow, And the hair of His head like pure wool. His throne was ablaze with flames, Its wheels were a burning fire.
And
Isaiah 49:2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of His hand He has concealed Me, And He has also made Me a select arrow; He has hidden Me in His quiver.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

All I could read, I found it was an angel with a two edged sword. This is "the word of God " to be used to cut away sin from the churches. Then in 19:15 it speaks of a rider with a sword to be used t smite the nations. I had to do some reading for this one. Thank you for the question. I still have some research to do on it.
