Im having withdrawals too and we are not even half way through December. One that comes to mind to me is 1993 when Dale Jarrett won and his daddy was calling the race on TV.

Probably the 1976 Daytona 500 where David Pearson let Petty go by him on the last lap only to pass him on the final turn to take the win. A close 2nd is the 1979 500 where Bobby Allison and Cale Yarborough ended up fighting in the infield. Bobby said he got hit in the side of the head with a helmet and all he can remember after that was Cale's face hitting his fist over and over again. Of course Bobby was grinning from ear to ear when he was recounting the story. It was classic.

1996 Daytona 500. I think I look back to that one a lot because that was about 6 or 7 months after I became a NASCAR fan, so it was the first one I watched.

Lots of great moments, but I agree with Bobby and Davey Allison crossing the line 1st and 2nd. Special mention of the one where Richard Petty and David Pearson wrecked coming to the flag and Pearson won it. That was wild.

1998 not just because I'm an Earnhardt fan but more so he came so close so many times and to finely win was great just like Martin has been second in the championship over an over to maybe, but a long shot see him win would be a dream come true

i cant remember the year but when dale jarrett in the green interstate batteries was racing dale sr to the line.
and ned jarret was the announcer it still makes the hair on my arms stand up everytime i see/hear it
"here they come to the line, its the Dale, and Dale show, come on dale keep it to the bottom, he's gonna do it he is going to win the dayton 500"
then they cut to ned's wife martha, crying in the motorhome ( she would never watch the race, only listen to the radio)
that for me is what daytona, and nascar is about FAMILY

1998 when Dale Sr won, I was there it was so awesome, he should have won more but this was great, I also got to meet him as well, and actually sit down and talk to him on saturday before the race with my dad, I still get excited when I think about that and the race...and it was great to see Jr win in 2004.. But I would say the 1998 was my all time favorite... I'm with you all the way, I'm suffering from withdrawls badly myself. on 12-9, we will have 70 more days..Time is gonna fly. Please.

Nothing more entertaining then the 79 Daytona. First flag to flag coverage ending in a fist fight.
