My cocker is a ball of energy and he certainly DOES shed. They require brushing at least once daily (mine gets brushed twice).
When he was a puppy, he required a lot of exercise. Now that he's an adult, he isn't quite as demanding as far as that goes, but I do have two little girls that keep him busy without my assistance, so that could be why.
Mine is very sweet. I got lucky. Some cockers have a tendency to be a little bit vicious and territorial- just a warning.
Mine is very smart and was easy to train. If you have the time and energy to put into a cocker, they're, IMHO, one of the best dogs a person can have.
You need to be careful of their ears and eyes, though. They're prone to infection in those areas.

All I can say, before you make the choice of getting her, do your HOMEWORK! Not trying to be mean, but they are a lot harder to care for then your average mutt. Cockers tend to have serious health issue, so make sure you are financially prepared for the event of bad ears, eyes, hips/joints and so on. The reason why you do not notice them shedding as much, is because the hair that sheds tends to stay on the coat and form matts. Before having children I did pro grooming, and believe me, they are one of the hardest breeds to keep a matt free coat on. They require brushings everyday, even with a short coat. I love the breed though, they can be very beautiful and loving! If you decide in the end to get her, congrads, she will make a great pet for the right person! Also, although Cockers are good in apartments, you will still need to bring her out at least 2x a day! Thankfully I live in the country and am able to let my dogs run around on our walks!

I had a cocker growing up, she was my favorite dog. They can be sorta high engery and barky at times and they aren't excactly the smartest things on earth, but i've never had a dog more devoted or that loved me more. If you plan to keep it in a long/show coat be prepared to brush every single day or they matt terribly. A long coat is a lot of coat to get dry after a bath too. Other than that good luck they are great dogs. Watch out for health issues, they have been overbred and sometimes have aggressive and health problems like skin issues, cataracts, hip displaya, ect. Mine lived a long happy full life and i never saw one trace of aggression other to birds and squirrels. They are a bird dog breed. Only dog i've ever seen that could catch birds.
