You should get a Playstation 3 because-

*Reliability- The PS3 has a .2% defect rate, the Xbox 360 has a 33% failure rate.

*Cell Processor- The cell processor is an extremely powerful micro processor built of 8 processors (SPE's) and one PPE. This processor is built for extreme amounts of processing and is very useful for multi tasking through artificial intelligence, physics, lighting navigation, etc- The xbox 360 has a 3 core processor, which is strong in general processing, albeit not the best for video games.

*RSX GPU- The RSX is a powerful GPU which is specialized to work with the cell processor to render DX10 like graphics by pooling it's RAM.- The xbox 360's GPU can only handle DX-9, while is good in the graphics department, though not the best.

*Blu Ray- The next generation disc medium which can store up to 50GB (100GB in experimental models) The extra space allows game developers to make large responsive environments, complex artificial intelegance, HD video and audio, etc. without compression.- The xbox 360 only uses DVD for games, which can only hold 9GB, which results in short games, aka Halo 3, Bioshock, and gears of war.

*Other operating systems- The ps3 can get different operating systems installed, such as Linux, allowing it to be an alternative computer, and you can install many diferent programs.- The xbox 360 cannot do this

*Web browser- The ps3 has a decent web browser, which you can go to many different web sites with, it does have basic flash updates, but it does need to be improved upon, including in java, though this can be fixed easily via a firmware upgrade. Many popular sites like myspace and youtube are accessable though.- the xbox 360 doesn't have one

*Folding@home- With this program which can be downloaded to any PS3 easily, you can use your PS3's extra processing power while you're not using it for Cancer research by folding and analyzing proteins.

*Play TV- Pretty much Tivo for your ps3, a tuner that you can record things with. Though it has only been announced to launch in Europe so far.

*Interchangeable hard drive- This pretty much means you can change the size of your hard drive with any hard drive so you can store more things.- you have to buy an expensive MS HDD for the 360

*Built in wifi- Wifi lets you connect to the internet wirelessly- With the xbox 360 you have to buy a wifi adapter for $100, this comes standard in the PS3.

*Free Online- the xbox 360 costs $50 per year

*Playstation Home- Playstation home is an interactive community of ps3 users where you can play games or meet up with friends and hang out at your virtual home and hang outs, as well as stream live media(releasing in early 08 and is FREE)

* Games- For now good games include; Heavenly Sword, Resistance Fall of Man, Rainbow Six Vegas, Folklore, warhawk, lair, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Call of Duty 4 Uncharted:Drakes Fortune, Motorstorm, Eye of Judgment etc. Good upcoming games are Haze, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Yakuza 3, White Knight Story, Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear online, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Afrika, Time Crisis 4, Tekken 6, Socom: Confrontation, L.A. Noire, Motorstorm 2, InFamous, Killzone 2, Kurayami, Way of the Samurai 3, etc. Over 300 games will be released by next spring.

Ps3
Blue ray- which the 360 does not have. You have to buy it seperately will cost you around 200 dollars. If you look at the technical stuff, the PS3 is superior to the 360. It comes with a built in blu-ray player, which is nice if you love the super hi-def resolution for movies. Why it's actually important is because the ps3 games come in blu-ray format. 360 games come in DVD format. Blu-ray disks have 25 GB memory (single layered), where as DVDs have only 5 GB memory (single layered). This means that PS3 games not only have better graphics (though it's not really showing right now, I'll talk about that later), they also have more space to put game information. If you read a magazine article vs a novel like Harry Potter, which will give you more information? Which will take longer to read? Blu-ray is like the novel. It allows for a deeper, longer, and better game. Right now this may not seem like a big deal because 360 games are just fine. But in the future, this will matter. The DVD format will cripple the 360 when game developers are trying to put so much into a game, and there isn't enough room. This will leave the PS3 with a much better gaming experience. Remember, this is more of a reason for the future. Blu-ray will last and DVD won't. Now, 360 owners may say "Well, you can buy a HD DVD player for the 360, which is just as good." It actually isn't. It costs $200, and it only plays HD DVD movies. The games are still DVD.

Six axis controller- Again the 360 does not have because the six axis have moion sensing just like the wii. Also it has a built in rechargeble battery and no wires. right now it just sucks because it has no vibration to it. But in a couple months its coming put with the new dual shock 3 six axis for a fact.

Playstation Home- Ever play sims well imagine the people that come into your property can be your friends play games and other stuff. Create your own virtual space and room. Invite friends chat im everything.

No need headset- You can easily use any cell phone bluetooth for online play no need for the 360 headset no plugs just push and play.

Games- Sony is still developing just like how the 360 devolpoe the halo 3 took a while but for the ps3 we have great games but not as much as 360. By 2009 we will have as much games as the 360.

Remote play- If you have a psp and a ps3 just by going to the internet with your psp anywhere in the whole world. You can acess your hardrive movies music photos such like thats what makes sony ps3 so much better

Memory- The ps3 has a 20gb 40gb 60gb and an 80gb 80gb is the best. You can attach extra hardrives as much as you want the 360 cant do that the max is 120gb. wow that sucks.

Wifi- 360 does not have you have to buy it seperately wow how gay. which is like 100 dollars and the signal strength isnt that strong The ps3 alreadycomes with it because its a default sony knows this..

System fan- ps3 has prove it has a quiteier fan than the 360..

Failure rate- ps3 0.1 percent 360 33 percent bad

Look I'll give you a clear, unbiased answer.
Xbox 360 is cheaper than the PS3.
Both have virtually the same graphics.
PS3 has less games than the XBox 360, but that does not make them bad.
Xbox 360 has the RRoD problem, but does not happen as often anymore.
PS3 has virtually no internal problems.
PS3 has free online play, while Xbox 360 you have to pay $50 to play online.
Games are about the same price.
PS3 has Bluray, Xbox 360 has HD.
You might have a larger game selection with the Xbox 360, but many games are crossovers.

So you choose.

The Xbox 360 is for the all around gamer. This is for the person who loves to play with his friends, go online and download movies and TV, and want the best games out there. The Xbox 360 blows the PS3 in terms of playing with friends and social.

The PS3 is for the Technophile, so that means you will get out of a game then any other console. But the horrible online play sucks and is not even worth to get, even if it is free. Also, the Blu Ray player hasn't won the HD format wars yet, so it might end up losing and be a huge blow. Pretty soon I bet a bunch of nPS3 loser boys are going to slam the Xbox 360 and say Halo sucks andd the PS3 will blow the Xbox 360 in 2008. Don't listen to them. In general, if you are a social gamer who loves shooters ans sports and racing games, get a 360. If you want the most out of your system, love Japnese RPGs and quirky games, get a PS3.

of course the ps3. so many more benefits. plus you don't have to pay for online like you do for xbox. And i don't think you HAVE to have an HD TV put it's much much better. the difference between blue ray and a regular dvd on a HC TV is really not different at all

PS3 80 GB. Its worth it

2007-12-08 12:39:53 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 2 2

This is my cut and paste answer. The reason for that is because a tech info is a tech info, you can't beat it (sources below).

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.

Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

1). A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%. Despite some people say, that new 360 has no breakdown issues - just visit Xbox section of Yahoo answers and see for yourself an amount of complaints.
2). PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
3). PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 180$, in this case Xbox is going to be MUCH more expensive, than PS3.
4). Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
5). PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in 4 slots card reader (except 20GB and 40GB versions), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
6). PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
7). PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
8). Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. RSX runs on 550 Mhz. It's difficult to compare their graphics chips, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles. However, PS3 exclusives look better than 360's exclusives.
9). PS3 uses technology from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This thing is on sale for PC(special card). The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.
10). Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 15 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That's why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
11). Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
12). In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......
13). PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
14). There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
15). The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).
16). On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
17). PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
18).Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
19).Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.
20). PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 is getting rumble controller (Dualshock 3) in 1st quarter 2008, Japan already has it. On www.ebay.com I saw those controllers on sale 50$ and up (unofficial import)
21).On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn't even think about it.
22).New 40GB is 399$ or 399 euro (depends on the region) - it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has 2 USBs instead of 4, no built-in card reader, but it's the same PS3, strong, reliable, less noisy, different cooling system. The price is friendly.

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.
