My dog is VERY friendly and loves people. But when I have company in my house, she gets very excited and hyper and jumps from couch to couch, runs up and down the hallway and won't stop if I tell her to! I don't know how to get her to stop! :(

I don't know how to get her to stop! :( I don't like putting her in another room because all she does is whine and cry. I want her to be able to be around people and not be so hyper!

It's great that your dog is friendly - but keep in mind, that doesn't make it acceptable behavior to jump all over people and make a nuisance of herself. Request that your guests ignore her completely when they arrive - in fact, if she jumps, they (and you) should turn around completely. The dog finds jumping up on people reinforcing because people (and you) reward her for doing that behavior. Removing the reinforcer by silently turning around will stop this behavior. And, it will not teach her to be afraid of people. When you knee a dog in the chest or step on their toes, you teach the dog that people will hurt her. Why do that when simply turning around is all that you need to do?

Get her leash, when you are expecting company, leash her, have her sit by you and pet her, this will give her a calming effect.......she is just happy to see people, but this tidbit of training and she will still love you and the company, just not as noisy.......talk to her, your voice will soothe her also..

saying no, will not help you...she is apparently a well cared for dog, or she would not love people so much...I commend you on this...good luck

If you have a crate, crate while there is company there, or keep her in another room or use an Ex-Pen to confine her.
