You could put up a fence.

I don't know how to train a dog not to run away, my dog just always stays near by on her own. The ONLY time we let her run free off leash is when we are up north on the lake. It is a quiet area very far from any roads, and there are few neighbors. Otherwise she is either on a leash or in a fenced in area At All Times!! I don't take the risk of letting her off leash in fear of that ONE time that she runs off into the road and gets hit by a car. All it takes is one time.

I know people who spent a lot of money to property train hteir dog and all it took was one distraction and a run across the street wehn they met up with a car or truck. Teh dogs either died or had severe damage done.
I would never have my dog loose without a fence.

If you care about your dog, you'll either keep him fenced or on a leash. Too many risks otherwise.

trust me on this one.. dont even take that chance.. walk him outside on his leash or put him in a huge dog run but never ever let him out without being on or in something.. not worth the risk
