I'm thinking of upgrading to save weight and increse tuneability
1. do you think its worth it?
2. if it is, what would be the best shock for all-mountain/ light freeride?

Theoretically, a coil will be plusher than air. I don't know which forks you're comparing, and what's your current one. I have a Marzocchi All Mountain SL 1 (2007) and is the nicest one I've had, but I think that line is over. But check the Marzochi 55 (some are air, some are coil), they're pretty nice. They aren't the lightest, though.

The Fox Float RLC sound pretty nice and ligth. Another option is Rock Shok Pike (but you need a 20mm front hub, but you gain in stiffness, pretty good). Or Rock Shock Revelation, which is close to the Pike but with a standard QR axle and 130mm travel vs 140 of the Pike.
