i have this friend who coughs up blood, reguarly, its a pretty sore subject, so never actually got the courage to ask her whats going on, any ideas?

It's NOT normal, so ask. If you're a friend, you should be able to ask--show your concern. Ask what it is, what treatment she's getting, if you can help her get treatment. It can be a sign of TB (tuberculosis, which IS contagious) and other respiratory ailments.

does she smoke ?
lung diseases can cause that
if you are concerned, as a friend, let her know that yo've noticed & if there is any way you can help when she has these bloody coughing spells
maybe it is TB
