Earlier i asked a question "Ok...Marines..how do you feel about women joining the Marine corps.?and why do you feel that way?".And One person answered and said "Just be aware that there is a small group of men in any branch of the military that are bent on making it hell for any military female. I have heard more than one man say that they would shoot a fellow female in the heat of combat so they could "continue fighting without worrying about her".

Females in the military are also more vulnerable to rape, especially in war, than probably any other profession. It has been covered up very well by the military.

As I said, it is a small group of men that make such a large problem, but it is something that every female who is considering the military must think about. Most upstanding men will downplay this problem because it is the ugliest of the ugly, and decent men can't fathom such behavior. Please, just be aware."

Please..tell me most of that isnt true....?

Served twenty years in the Marine Corps and cannot say there is no one in the Marine Corps capable of rape-I will say that all the Marines I knew would gladly gut shoot that person and leave them to die. They would not be a fellow Marine to me and the rest but a disgrace to the Corps. I served with Women Marines and will not spout the BS about them being better and so on-they were on average as good the the male Marines on average-some better and some worse, but they were fellow Marines. As far as the more likely to be raped in combat-then who? What group can you match them against, since they make up a much smaller percentage of the overall population there then in the country even one rape would skew the statistics. The best and brightest minds in the nation supposedly go to Harvard and Yale-any of those graduates ever been charged with rape or date rape occurred at those schools? Yes. Into every group including the Marines there will be a few who would shame the rest and my opinion of them is in the first section-they are not my fellow Marine but a disgrace to the Corps and a stain on the honor of the Corps. How could a Marine rape a fellow Marine and ever say "Semper Fi" or claim to be a Marine-he can't and in combat and given the chance I would not hesitate to remove that person from the Corps because he never was a Marine.

I was in the Corps back in the 1980's
women just weren't in combat roles back then...
and I will admit when a smart talented woman made it to the higher ranks there was always the whispered talk about her sleeping her way up the ladder...

Now I cant speak for every fellow jar head out there and you do have to remember in any group there will be at least one bad egg...but when it comes to Marines we take the whole honor thing very seriously...I'm not saying a rape wouldn't happen but the rapist would most likely to be the victim of friendly fire...

Lastly when you ask would I go into a firefight with a woman??? well mostly likely not...but Male or Female I'm never scared to have a fellow Marine watch my back...

While I absolutely believe in "innocent until proven guilty" in regards to the law, it is true that when there's thousands upon thousands of men in an organization, even one as upstanding and disciplined as the Marines, there are bound to be a small handful of bad apples.

A man who would shoot his fellow Marine in combat is nothing short of a treasonous coward, and one who would engage in rape is a disgrace to the military. Such men likely exist, but I hate to think such. I've never met a military man, let alone a Marine, who would find such behavior even thinkable.

If not for the tiniest number of people, I would say it is totally untrue that Marines could do such.

Male Marines are drawn from the ranks of the general U.S. male population. Given that, think about the incidents of violence against women that have been reported on various college campuses in the U.S. In any given group of males there is always a small percentage who try to masquerade as adults while still being mentally in seventh grade. There's also a small group of men who were raised in physically abusive households where the pattern of physical abuse is as familiar to them as the sun rising every morning.
If there is a difference in the Marines (I served eight years with Fleet Marines as a Navyman) and the other branches of the service it is in how we deal with these issues. Courts-martial, less than honorable discharges, monetary fines and prison time are handed out at a higher rate than in civilian justice systems.

Rape? I dont think so. Besides the fact women are in the marines mean they should be physically capable of handling guys like that, and most guys in the marines look out for women especially, I know I wouldnt just sit there and watch something like that happen, I'd kill to save that woman even if it meant me going to jail for the rest of my life, im sure lots of guys agree with me. Not all guys are slobs.

It's probably true, horrible though it is, but it'll get covered up as much as possible when it happens. Women are still looked down upon. And I wouldn't trust anyone who hasn't proved themselves trustworthy-here, "innocent until proven guilty" is definitely not the right mentality.
