i am sending off an art portfolio and the entries have to be compatible with a mac os x. my computer runs windows xp. if i make a cd of my images (cd-r) will the mac os x user be able to open them? if not, what do i need to do to burn a cd that they will be able to access?

if you put a jpeg (*.jpg) files on it, make them a nice iso format (+joliet) there will be no issue at all reading the cd in a mac.

Avoid the video CD format.

Normally there are settings with the better burning software like Toast-7 or 8 that have settings that give you the choice of PC only, Mac only, or PC or Mac compatible.
Many of the PC based burning softwares do not give these option's and cannot be read. CD-R is fine, I also suggest you use a standard format that is recognisable across all platforms.
JPEG, TIFF, PDF,
This is another reason proffesional software like Photoshop is used.

Maybe. You *need* to have an Intel Processor. If your Mac has a PowerPC chip (that is a G3, G4 or G5 processor), it won't work at all. You also need, at the very least 1GB of RAM and 7GB of free space on your hard drive. Hope this helps! :)
