The telephone credit was one year only, for 2006, so no you can't claim that this year.

Home improvements can only be claimed if they qualify for home energy credits. Some home improvements do, most don't. See http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=154657,00.html

Some other credits are the child tax credit (if you have a dependent who is your child under 17), education credits for tuition and fees past high school, dependent care credit (e.g. daycare so you can work), and Earned Income Credits (for low income people who work, and low to moderate income families with children with parents who work). There are many other credits, and it depends on your personal situation what you are eligible for.
