Just joined the National Guard and I was told that if I didnt sign on for 6+2 then I wouldnt get the full 20,000. Is this true or did I get screwed.
Its not that I dont want to be in for that long,.. I plan on reenlisting when that comes up but I just wanted to know.

Serious answers only please.

there is no 3+1 last I checked it would be 3+5 because no matter what the contract will add up to 8 years total so your 6+2 isn't a bad deal, I know people who've gotten 5+3, 4+4, even 3+5 and gotten bonuses but some of that depends on the MOS you picked when you enlisted also on whether or not they will accept less than a 6+2.

if it's not on your paperwork that you sign at MEPS then, no, you don't get it, even if you sign up for the exended period.

THE ONLY document that is legally binding to the government is this document, signed at MEPS. Make sure you read it carefully prior to signing. If it needs revision, tell them before you sign it.

not necessarily..some bonuses are tied to how long you enlist.
