from my fiance's friend, who owns a cake shop and he has quoted us £300.00 for a 2 tier cake all chocolate cake, no mention of a discount

This price does not include out names being on the cake!

This friend who owns the cake shop expects to also come to the wedding and eat the food, listen and dance to the music at the reception blah blah blah!

Do you think is the correct wedding manners from the baker?

never go into business with friends, thank them for the offer and price elsewhere.. the cupcakes are lovely though too.. I particularly like the cupcakes for an event where you are offering other deserts and maybe they can take the cupcakes home.. then you don't need a favor either!

Well I was lucky enough to have a brother-in-law who is a chef who made our cake for us and actually gave it to us as a wedding present.
I can't imagine your friend would give you a £300 gift! But even so, I would have thought they might have given you a discount of some sort.
If you can't make your own or have a relative that can then I would go with some of the previous suggestions like buy a couple of plain cakes and ice them yourself. There is no need to spend this much on a cake, I didn't even spend that much on my dress!!!!

Cancel the cake order its a rip off. Don't even think about tea cakes, your mum could make them. Go to Bakers who deal with special occasions such as weddings, i am sure it will not cost what your finace's friend is charging. Its ridiculous.. get out there and look for a reasonable wedding cake.. Good luck

You can always go to different bakeries and get different quotes for your cake. The couples name usually doesn't go on a wedding cake unless it's part of the design. Either way that shouldn't add to the price of the cake. Your fiance's friend might be expecting to come to the wedding simply because he considers himself a close friend. Talk to your fiance and see what he says.

Just because he is a friend doesn't mean he should give you a discount. I too make cakes and know how much cost is involved in making a cake...not to mention the work that goes into it. You should keep it on a professional level or look elsewhere for someone to make your cake.

I definetly think thats rediculous pricing for a cake like that but what you chose instead is pretty and different not alot of people go with cupcakes.

Look elsewhere. Don't have the cupcake thing, go for the big cake that is meant for a wedding! Good Luck!
