I'm 15 and want to volunteer for my community during Christmas break. Something that has to do with children or homeless..soup kitchens... animals maybe...etc. The problem is I can't find anywhere to do it! I really want to... and was wondering if anyone can help or knows a place?

good for you! it's the worst time of year for many of the disadvantaged!
do you know any people that go to church regularly? most churchs organise something at this time of year. so i'd ask friends and family that might know, and if possible, go with one of them.

VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations. These are great places to look for volunteering opportunities. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site.

Volunteering during the holidays can be very difficult, because organizations are overwhelmed with requests from people wanting to do such at this time of year -- there often aren't enough opportunities to go around. Before you contact any organization, you need to have identified the skills you want to offer, identified how often you could volunteer and what time of day you can volunteer, and worked out any transporation issues. Then start applying for appropriate opportunities. Remember that finding a volunteering opportunity is a lot like finding a job -- you have to present yourself very well, and you have to contact many organizations before you are ultimately chosen.

Call your local United Way office. Here in Omaha they are the clearing house for everything in the way of volunteering. If that doesn't work, call a church to see if they can suggest anything. And least but not least, check with your public library. Quite often they have all sorts of community info. Finally, look in the Yellow Pages under Charities and call those.

You can contact your local animal shelter and volunteer to walk dogs or socialize with cats. You can use these community service credits for high school too.I have done volunteer work for animal control for 2 years and its the most fun I have ever had and I am going to school to be a vet tech because of it.
Try it the animals will love you for it!!

There's always food not bombs, where you can feed the homeless. Look around them up and there might be one around you.
