Yes, the procedure for retrieve and clear code is almost the same.
Warm up your engine (about 10 minutes drive)
Access your car ECU (engine control unit) at driver side lower left panel.
Turn the diagnostic mode selector on ECU fully clockwise.
After the inspection lamps flashed 3 times, turn the diagnostic mode selector fully counterclockwise.
Code 55 is OK. If not 55, write down the code.

To clear the trouble code:
Turn the mode selector clockwise.
After the lamps flashed 4 times, turn the selector counterclockwise.

Buy a Haynes manual. It's a must have!!! Salvage yard is your best friend!!! It may be a sensor that has gone out. Track down the sensor for that and get a couple of them off cars at salvage yard just in case to make sure you get a good one. Might be your radiator cap. may be the hose (EFI). Or disconnect the battery for @ half hour or so.that should reset the computer. Then go drive it on freeway @45-60 miles see if the light goes out. My friends brother-in-law is a mechanic when her SUV check engine light did the same that reset her computer on her car and turned her light off. Good Luck !! My grand prix the sensor took care of check engine light. Radiator cap on ford escort.

Disconnect your positive side of the battery for 15 to 30 seconds, that will reset the ECM, then get a hand held diagnostic tool at the local Car parts store

did he point out a cylinder misfire or what? there is not any such code: "cylinder 6 has failed". the code is probably a P0306. which could be a misfire code, which could be gasoline, air (compression), or a spark correct situation. i'm a mechanic and that i could recommend you get a 2d opinion! an addition i could get cylinder laek down attempt finished, which brings the cylinder #6 to suitable ineffective center and seals the valves. the attempt will end if the valves are sealing or inf the piston jewelry are worn. even have them positioned slightly bit oil interior the cylinder the 2d time around to determine in jewelry are worn.
