ok lets start from the top
you sign for 3 years of the army but have a 6 year obligation
you work in the army for 3 years and get payed pretty well not anything to high althowe as you advance in rank you can make upwards to 3000-4000 a month and most generals make about 16k a month
there are alot of different jobs so you can find what you want to be
yes, if a war develops you will have to go to war now as long as you don't become infantry or calvary in the army your probably going to be fine unless its a nuclear war which is very unlikely trying being a fueler its a pretty safe job
now on the 6 year obligation you get out of the army in 3 BUT if a war developes and they seriously need troups your are obligated to come back
also you get a huge bonus depending on the time how much theyre giving rite now its about 15-20000 this is spread out over 3-4 pays over the whole time your in the army and yes i do believe they pill pay for 90% of your college for as long as you go

Listen, be careful and take what the recruiter has to say with a grain of salt.
Truth, all forms of the military provide a college bill.
However, the latter is 99% of the time implemented after you re-enlist, not while you are serving your initial term.
Speak with the recruiter about the family visits, when you join any military you relinquish yourself completely to the Government.
Essentially, you become the property of the US Government.
The military has a code where honor and integrity is a requirement.
Serving your country is beautiful, very patriotic in every sense.
However, make sure it is what you desire and not a friends decision...
You cannot quit the military like a job you do not like.

First, never join something just because a friend is doing it.
Alway do your research before you join any organization.
My brother was in the US Marines. The recruiters came to his highschool and starting speaking to the seniors about joining the corp. One day he came home and tells my family that he had joined the Marines. It was strange to me that my brother who could never follow rules and never had self discipline chose this path. He was discharged after 4 years of service and nearly missed the conflict in the Falklin Islands back in 1982.
His reasons for joining was not our of desire to be in the military out of duty and honor to country. It was because his friends were doing it.
I honor our brothers and sisters who chose to join the military. It really should be a calling of honor and duty and less focus on free education and the new lands you will see.
As for college, yes they do lure you in with the idea that you can get an education but if college is not your ultimate goal what is the point? You can go to a 2 year college and still get a good job.
I have two friends who were in the service. One joined the navy. His tour was only 4 years and he took his leave after that tour. He was honorably discharged from the military. He joined because he felt he was living a life of lawlessness and would have ended up in jail. It was the best thing for him and now he is studying to be a lawyer.
My other friend joined the Army reserves and received his education through an expensive catholic university. He continued to be in the reserves and served 2 tours of duty through two wars. In 2002 his troups were called for tour of duty in Iraq. He spent a year waiting to hear when he would be deployed. Within that year he made the decision to leave. Not because he no longer loved the Army but because his life had greatly changed from the time he was 18. All this time serving he was a cop, provided for a family of four and is now a top dectective on the police force in our city.
I hope you will choose well and choose for yourself and no one else. Good luck to you and God speed.

Most of your questions can be answered by a recruiter or better by a soldier that's currently in the army. I was in Army Security Agency, military intelligence and all that. I had a great time. I was blessed that I didn't have to go to Viet Nam, I was stationed in Thailand for two years and three months and then got out. Yes, you get paid, it isn't very much but you get free housing, food, and clothing while you're in.

Alright, you have many questions in one here so I'll break it down.
1) Is the Army good?: Well that depends It's good for me and it's good for some others but it's not good for everyone. I love having a job where I get to travel (Europe 3 1/2 years), I love learning about new cultures (currently in Korea), I personally like helping people that are less fortunate than we are in the US (Iraq) so for me the Army is AWSOME, but some people can't handle the fact that you are watched and forced to live by strict guidlines for a lot of things so for them it's bad.
2) How long do you have to be in before they let you go home?: Well you get 2.5 days of leave a month which comes out to 30 days a year, after training you may have the opportunity to take leave and then if you want to go home your free to do so, just remember while you rhome that you are still under military law and if yu mess up you will be caught and tried by the military, as well as the civilian courts. So you can also go home for Emergency leave if something big happens (Immediate family member dies) even if you don't have leave days saved up you can take Emergency leave.
3) What do you have to do if there is a war? Well that depends on your job in the Military.
4) Do I have to go or can I just stay home?: Well if you enlist and are active duty (or activated Reserve) yes you have to go or you are a deserter and you face felony charges which will get you arrested. If you don't enlist you don't have to.
5) Do I get paid?: Well of course you get paid it's a job. Pay isn't nessicarily the best part of the military we work long hours and get a lot of garbage from people because we do our job, but we get paid you will also get either paid to buy food or get a meal card so you can eat for free, you will live in Barracks so you have a place to live, if your in a dangerous area you will get bonus money for that if your married and forced to be away from your wife you will get extra money for that, you can get extra money for being fluent in other languages, ect...
6)What do I do in the Army and will they get me a four year degree if I go?: Well you will have a list of Jobs to choose from based on your ASVAB score that will let you know what you will do in the Army like I'm an MP (Military Police), guess what I do...My Brother was an Engineer (he built bridges and blew them up) there are cooks and even a band in the Army so you can do just about any job you want if you are qualified for it, and can pass the schooling. As for the degree the Army can't garuntee you a four year degree you have to go out and earn it, Like in my case I was in units that were always to busy to get me free time to go to college but in my last unit I got time to go and almost finished a 2 year degree but I'm back in a Unit where I'm always moving again and I need to work harder to get college, but if I don't finish my degree while I'm in I know that if I go back home I will get the Illinois Vetrans grant and the Montgomery GI Bill, also I will qualify for the PELS Grant so I can go to college full time and not have to pick up side jobs to make ends meet.
Hope this answers most of your questions.

i would say its a personal choice, if you want to help the country while knowing you are basically sacrificing your life, then do it, but dont go just because your friend is...they will pay for college, and the length of time your there before you go home, at this point in time, varies, because of the war in iraq, many people are being kept longer and longer...i wouldnt go but thats my opinion...its lots of bootcamp, and staying up all night! getting 3 hours of sleeping, that kind of thing, but theres lots of fun(in the training) too! i know im a pyro, so getting to blow stuff up would be awesome! the pay isnt to great, but its what kept my family alive, my dad couldnt get a job, so he joined the army, umm, at this point you cant just stay home and be in the army because of the war! but its a personal decision, and you should think it through thoroughly before making a decision, good luck whatever the choice may be
and blessed be!(p.s. may want to revise spelling)

Do NOT allow peer pressure to influence you. As for returning to home, it depends on how many years you enlist but this is different for commissioned officers since they have to do a minimal of 5 years. If you want to stay home join the national guard or reserves, but you might still go to Afghanistan or Iraq. Study what your options are regarding the money for college since you need a certain score on the ASVAB to qualify for it.

Do every one including yourself in this country a big favor. Do not join the military. I wouldnt want any of my friends or in the near future my children or any one of the unit of Cadets I help lead or anyone serving with in the military or leading someone as selfish as you seem to be. If you join the military and there is a War you go and run home and hide while your mates are fighting and possibly dying because you werent there to do your job. Please do not join

It is alright if you wanted to serve the country and look smart and tough in uniform. I'm in uniformed too, and surely they will let you go to college if they felt the course you gonna take is good for the army. The army need smart guys in the force too.

If you don't want to go...then don't. But I suggest maybe reviewing your spelling. Contry? Collage? Realy? We'll just say they were typos. Sorry about that..I had to.
