watch the Narnia movie or let them read the Narnia Books? Just curious. There seems to be many questions about this Golden Compass movie and Christians not wanting to let their children see it, just wondering what happens on the flip side of the movies?

I let my brother go and see the movie, a matter a fact I was with him watching it. We've also read the books or at lest the first one and it doesn't bother us one bit. We just view it as nothing more then a good book and a good movie. The same thing is true for us and The Lord of The Rings. As for the Golden Compass we were trying to figure out if we wanted to go and see it or not. So far the vote still remains at a yes, but with my work schedule I don't really know. Our lives aren't very much different from religious peoples, it's just we don't bother with religion, it's nothing personal, it's just not us that's all. Well I hope that helped you on your question and I hope other people will answer you truthfully and not in sarcastic ways that are uncalled for. have a good one.

I have, I let them read all kinds of novels. They read Harry Potter too. I see nothing wrong with this it is a story as is this other new movie they are coming down on.
I think parents are responsible enough to teach their children what is truthful and what is not when it comes to tv, they will ask and you tell them what you feel is the truth, do not lie or make up something that is for sure.
for me i am a non believer in a way but not an atheist im pagan and do except your god exists but he is not the only god hence he would not say worship no other gods before me now would he...=]]] so I think these movies are great for opening the imagination of childrens minds and it is not harming them at all no matter what a director may be trying to target regardless. I think the bond between child and parent IN MOST not all of course cases will settle this question within their own home.
I do not think a boycott is a good idea it is just up to each person to decide if they wish to allow their children access to it or not. IT is your choice as a parent UNLESS they are 16 then they can go with out you!!

I have. I don't restrict reading material or movies. We've seen the Passion of Christ *shrug* I think this is more of a control issue for the Christians. Just seems that many of them fear things like The Golden Compass while trying to maintain the "Strong Faith" appearance and it's not really working.

As an atheist, if I had children, I'd have no problem letting them read the Chronicles of Narnia, or see the movie.
I haven't read the books since I was in jr. high, but I really liked the movie...for what it was...
Little children aren't going to pick up on underlying themes in movies..they're going to be concentrating more on what's on the screen than what's going on in the underlying message.

Ooh, ooh, pick me.
I'm a Wiccan, raising my kids within the tenets of my faith.
I read the books as a child and watched the BBC adaptations, and had no problem letting my kids see the movie last winter. The oldest is working her way through the books. (The youngest doesn't read yet.)

I don't have any, but when I do I plan to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to them at a relatively early age, alongside The Lord of the Rings.

I don't have any kids but if I did I would let them read and watch the Naria stories and the Harry Potter stories, because the movies are just movies and the books are just books.

i don't have kids yet, but i do own the chronicles of narnia series. it's good fantasy. my kids can read whatever they like when i have them. i would rather have educated well rounded children with their own well thought out beliefs than morons who believe exactly as i do for no other reason than the fact that i have restricted their intake of ideas.
