My dog also did this, he is just trying to let you know that he knows your his mommy, my dog did this so i also asked many questions, there is nothing wrong with your dog I promise. Give him time, as for the cleaning the crate you should get him a toy that he really likes and get him to play with it while you are cleaning. That is what I did and it worked.

Your puppy has just found a new place for himself. He needs some time to adjust and find out he can stay with you and trust you. The first week or so he will constantly run after you but after some days they start sleeping relaxed and get used to the plays. He needs a lott of attention in the beginning. Play with him and talk nice to him. That way he will learn quickly that he can trust you and starts being more relaxed. Than you can start learning him to sit and lotts of other stuff. Don't expect to much in the beginning. After all he is just a baby who needs love and attention. (I don't mean spoil him)
If you follow these things, you will have a great and happy dog later on. Good luck!

HI , I like the answers that suggest giving the puppy slippers and a blanket that has your scent on it, but I disagree with most of the responses here. Your pet is going to be tiny and literally a baby still for such a short time, take advantage of it. We bought a puppy from a breeder and for the first couple months, I kept him in a box beside my bed and kept my hand over him to sleep, I also let him lay on my stomach when I was reading or watching t v for those first couple critical months when he seemed to need to be close to me. I also got a baby sling and carried him around the house and shopping with me in that.
He is now over 2 years old, a wonderfully , calm ,behaved dog who loves other dogs & cats & still loves us but is content also when he has to be in his indoor home cage. Those first critical months gave him the security and trust in us, me that has helped make him into a healthy and content adult now.
I also don't believe in letting a baby ''cry it out'' and I always rocked my babies to sleep too. I have even rocked our dogs. Think about how you'd want to be treated if you were scared & felt uneasy in new surroundings. Right now you are his loving security in his short life so it's natural that he wants to be with you. His horizons will expand as he grows.

I'm so sorry; you are going to be facing a lot of problems later in life. Did you do any research before getting this puppy? Did you know that 99% of puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills? Do you know what sort of terrible health and genetic defects puppy mill dogs have? A simple solution to your problem would be to just ignore him. It sounds cruel, but you are going to have a very spoiled, insecure dog on your hands if you do not teach him some independence.

when my puppy was 3 months old he was in puppy traing classes at petsmart we were told at this age your puppy cannot wait for 2 hrs to go to the bathroom if he has a crate he may or may not eliminate in his crate. we learned a lot from our trainer including what is appropriate time out and we were told that soon our puppies won't need the security of following us around

Give him a blanket that smells like you and put a radio in the pen so he has something to listen to. He may be afraid that this pen is like the pet store where no one will pay him any attention. This has worked for me. I hope it works for you.

Tuff love.
just put hiim in the playpen with a blanket and some toys
he wasn't with somone every minute at the pet shop. By allowing him to be with you constantly you are letting him know he will get his will.

get a three-foot leash and attach it to his collar. any time he tries to come near you, pull on the leash to the side to get him away. after about a week of doing that, he should realize that he doesn't need to be there 24/7
