Is the Christ of Christmas easier to approach than the Christ of the cross? Is that why many people feel comfortable with Christianity around this time of year?

Actually you are making a valid point, however, this would have been truer a few years ago, today people are even trying to get Christ out of Christmas and make it completely HAPPY HOLIDAYS- in our town there is a banner that reads- THE 12 DAYS OF HOLIDAY CHEER. However, for those of us who have been saved by Christ who died on the cross - CHRISTmas will always be CHRIST.

Maybe, but He was not born this time of year. The problem is most people don't know the actual history of their religion.
Did you know that King Constantine changed the bible in 324 AD at the Council at Nicea with his click of scribes. The original followers of Jesus took the original new testament (The Gospel of the Nazirenes) into hiding ( a Buddhist temple) so Constantine would not find it. The rest were burned (which was easy to do being only the higher ups in th church and Government had copies, and women couldn't read. The Essenes also had to hide being they where being killed by the Roman government because they followed Jesus' teachings. The original new testament was found and is now available in English. For info google gospelofthenazirenes.com It has historical documentation of its authenticity. Following the original teachings of Jesus will set one free. Jesus originally taught karma, reincarnation, vegetarianism and no one goes to hell eternally. I am so glad I know the truth now.

Well according to Christianity, Christ was just a newborn on Christmas.
Which would you rather approach? A newborn baby, or a screaming, spitting, sweaty, full grown man with nails through his limbs?

I see your point. But the Christian can never forget that the very same hands that reached out to touch the Blessed Virgin's face from the manger in Bethlehem...were cruelly nailed to the Cross thirty-three years later on Golgotha hill.

Yes, I think you are right. But people need to take time to meditate on both. Both have an enormous impact on humanity as a whole.
