i am pretty sure your local police units do carry some sort of hand guns , i all depends where you live and how much crime and how many guns you all have in your community. mostly the police units on bikes and in parks or in school are the newbie’s and therefore placed in areas where you don't have a need for gun. i am used to live Saudi Arabia where everybody has a gun yet no body carries it with them their is almost no crime and the people around and the police are very very efficient . ! its the safest place where i have lived. Now I have been to Yemen where its common for people to have their guns in public ie you can see people walking around with all sorts of carbines as if we carry our cellar phones. Their crime rate is also quite low. If you take the example of USA, where 9 out of 10 people have guns. Where people think its their right to use a gun and where generally the society is not really moral corrupt you got crime in and murders and police being shot at.
my neighbor works for Dallas police department and he carries 3 guns while on duty a glock 21 side arm , Remington cruiser 12ga in his squad car and his choice of a long gun in the trunk his is a AR 15.

English/British police from time to time do carry weapons. British police have ARV=armed reaction autos, those autos are continually on patrol and may be asked by an unarmed officer to an incident..ARV autos carry rifles/sub device weapons/pistols and are manned by completely experienced firearms officers. British airports are patrolled by armed police with sub macine weapons and hand weapons. Your widespread well-known British police officer does no longer carry a gun and has a teloscopic batton,cs spray, pepper spray, and a few have tazers. Britain does no longer have the levels of gun crime of places like united statesa. or South Africa.. Britain does have a violent society and an develop in gun crime British police would all be armed with weapons interior the subsequent 5/10 years.

There are many armed police in the UK. They also have the assistance of the army at times. As for a joke I would disagree, have you heard of the SAS or SBS? They are soldiers and can be called upon if need be. Many European police are well armed and trained and are organized in a paramilitary fashion who I would not wish to trifle with.

Since guns are not prevalent like they are in the US, there is no need for cops to have guns. When the need arises, they are furnished with guns. This policy has resulted in a lot less murders per capita than the US has. Also they don't have cops shooting innocent people like the US has.
