I bought a box of cake mix and baked it in two 9-inch pans. I just took them out of the oven, and they're all puffy and weird-shaped. I tried pushing the top down so it'd flatten out, but it poofed back up! So like am I supposed to glue the two round sides together with frosting? Or like one round side to a flat side? Or should I chop off the roundish part so it's flat? I've never baked cake before, mostly just brownies and cookies, so I'm new at this. I'm baking myself a birthday cake, cuz baking's fun. I turned 13 today. Woo-hoo! Okay, can someone help me?

I do many cakes, and I would just trim the cakes level. A sandwich cake looks so much better that way, just as long as you don't have to remove too much.
Congrats on the birthday, and your baking.

I always use the flatter of the two cake layers as the bottom one and put the bottom layer on the serving plate with the flat side up, add a thin layer of icing, then put the top layer on with the flat side down, then finish icing.

The other way I know is to cut a thin slice from the bottom layer and reserve the slice. Place the bottom layer on the serving plate (cut side down, because the other side will be easier to ice), brush off any crumbs and ice the top to seal the cake layers together. Place the top layer on and ice ONLY THE SIDES of both layers of the cake. Then crumble the reserved slice and sprinkle the crumbs onto the fresh icing as decoration around the outside of the cake. Shake or brush off the excess crumbs, THEN ice the top of the cake and decorate as you wish. Or you can just use the crumbs as decoration of the top of the cake as well.

Happy birthday, and happy baking.

Just make sure your bottom layer is flat so that the top layer can sit on it straight. It doesn't matter is the top layer has a hump, the icing will take care of that for you. Oh, and Happy Birthday to you!

All of those ways will work. The most common though is to put a layer of frosting between the cake halves.
