Why should it matter. If people are so damn hung up on religion or lack of it they are not contributing to anything, so stop and do something productive.

Both contribute their share, believe it or not Christians do believe in medical advancement and human rights etc.

According to present information there are 20 million atheist in USA. that is 5% of population, probably others are 5% so at least 90% are Christian. You figure it out, who contributes more.

I am non-Christian. I feel that fundamentalist in any religion is a drag on majority. But I will not condemn any group. Some of the churches perform so much for the society, I am always thankful to them.
What have done lately for your society?

Have you not heard of the Shriners. You have to be a Freemason to be a shriner and a Freemason must believe in the existence of a supreme being. Also many hospitals are religious based. As far as humanity I don't need to go on about that.

All that doesn't matter, as long as all humanity is helped. It is not right to do the "king of the mountain" thing in all situations.

Ancient polytheistic/pagan Greeks.

They had not only medicines, but were the first on record to posit the ideals of democracy and independent thought. This has facilitated all other action in the humanities since.

Some doctors and scientists do believe in God; are religious, and some do not and are not. I believe that Christians and atheists contribute about equally to human society.
Of course, there are good and bad in both the religious and the non-religious---but it's good to know that there is good among both as well.
Why are we only speaking of Christians and atheists? What about Buddhists? Jews? Hindus? etc......

This would be a function of numbers more than anything. If you have 10 million of one group and 1 million of another group, the pool is larger on one side, thus giving a statistically higher percentages of people doing any one thing of your choosing.

SOOooooo, if this is true, the majority is also more likely to be rapists, thieves, embezzlers, etc.

Good question, as a roman catholic for 50 years, it seems much cheaper to be an atheist. My church dues just like my taxes pay for; Food for the poor Food for illegal’s
drug and alcohol abuse programs
ulities and heat for places I don’t live
“human rights” sob stories
Chapel’s in prisons &
Humane treatment of criminals
Humane treatment for terrorists
Humane treatment for pedophiles
Very large settlements because of pedophiles.
Thanks, your question really makes me wonder.

Religious superstition has held back progress so much that without it we may have been colonising the outer reaches of the galaxy.

[edit]

U.S. OF A. FOREVER I didn't give you thumbs down for supporting some 3rd world inhabitants - I gave you thumbs down for:

1. For the upper case bragging of “U.S. OF A. FOREVER” cos as we all know patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.
2. For saying you provide “100% of the needs” – any fool knows that monetary needs are only part of the human needs.
3. For really thinking anyone would give you a ‘thumbs down’ for helping starving people.

by far those who work beyond religion have contributed to the well being and peaceful advancement of the human race.... christians are a barrier to knowledge there is always a christian faction seeking to deny humanity from understanding the natural earth... every christian religion began as a racist cult..... but the laws introduced through the human conscience have prevented the chrisitians from burning us at the stake like they use to ... now they are just seeking to prevent us from learning by seeking to censor what is taught, from trying to stop evolution from being taught in schools... to censoring and limiting free speech , freedom of expression... example .. trying to have John Lennon's song Imagine ... removed from radio play list... they fight very dirty... they are insidious in their manipulation of our societies and governments... They function on having all the rights and freedoms we, the non christians work for yet working to allow no other persons from peacefully enjoying these rights...

Atheists, mainly because they don't have any restrictions on what they research.
For example, a Christian wouldn't research benefits for evolution, but an atheist would. Therefor, they contribute more. (No restrictions.)
